Hostiles in the GEM editor
Hi y'all, I just started trying my hand at creating custom missions. I have this great one based on the "Road" map with a bunch of T-34's being ambushed by a Tiger. I want to be able to open the map and play as either side in Skirmish mode. Here's the problem: it works fine in the editor (I can select and play as either side), and the map loads fine in skirmish mode, but for some reason no matter which team I pick, all units on the map are hostile! (They are also hostile to the enemy team that spawns in). The Tiger is set to Player 1 and user control, the t-34's Player 2 and user control, but it doesn't matter - whoever I spawn in as, my units immediately turn on me and massacre my men. How do I assign the units on the map to the players in the multiplayer game, instead of them being hostile to human/ai players? (For what it's worth, they also fight each other as inteneded.) Thanks!

In f9 of the mission make sure team u want user/player to be there is setting there, also any other teams u want it to be allied or neutral and what enemy there is diplomacy setting there.

What if I want both teams to be playable (say, in multiplayer?) (It's an multi map - I'm just using skirmish mode to test it)

Still don't have an answer for this, if anyone else has some useful advice? Again, I want all units on the map to belong to the two user players, NOT to separate AI factions. Thanks

Found this in an incredibly old post, perhaps can infrom the discussion...
On a side note, W function does not work - I can open Tags menu with CNTRL-T but it won't let ne add new. What gives?
Also, how do I make a "Game Zone" as it says?

Re: No Control Over User Units

Hallelujah...

After many hours of banging my head against the wall I've finally worked out how to take a map, any map, and build your own mission upon it. For example, at the moment I'm playing around with the 4v4 Town map and creating a single player/skirmish map. Its nothing serious, its just a way for me to learn the editor.

Anyway, for those that are interested...

After loading a (blank (F2)) map you have to create a 'GameZone' and then stretch the 4 points to cover the map, after that you simply add player unit/s and give them a tag such as 'Player_start'. The number you use doesn't seem to matter, I've tested it with Player 0/Player 1 and Player 2, but I'd take the advice of djsatane and stick with player 2, after all thats the way digitalmindsoft seem to do it. Once you've done that you then make a trigger and in the commands you firstly add a delay of a few sec's (Enough time for the game to load) then add another command called 'autoassign' and alter the selector so the tag reads 'player_start' and the zone reads 'GameZone' and thats it!

Save in F3 mode and name the file 0.mi, now copy and move all the files over to your mod file, activate it, start the game, and bob's your uncle!

Thanks for your help djsatane and Bobby Woll, it sent me on the right tracks to sorting this out!

For multiplayer modes you have to look at maps/mi files and how they are setup, typically in multiplayer you do not save soldiers preloaded in mi file for player use, this is taken care of by multiplayer mode buys/spawns of units. If you going to use player 2 as team make sure you set player 2 as player selected team in f9 options or player 0 and set 0 and 2 allied to each other in alliances section of f9. Further, if its for single player the units u want user to control have to be set to user control and allied to team thats set to player in f9 options. In coop any of those units also have to be autoassigned.
