Are you seriouse, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Thank you anyways
Sadly, yes. I don't get it its and RTS how do they not include skirmish for free!
Still, an RTS is suppose to have a free skirmish. It's currently 2$ because of the summer sales, but the original price is 10$, which is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Now compare that price to a triple A title.
Or you could think of it this way.
Multiplayer and basic singleplayer plus gazillions of mods = $30.
Multiplayer and singleplayer plus gazillions of mods = $40.
Honestly the skirmish is bad. You are better off playing humans. They will offer a much morw challenging experience. The ai is just predicable. They will send tanks to flags with no infantry support. Which is just not how you should play the game.
I like the fact that this is a RTS whit a low price, but there is a few triple A RTS, Civilization and C&C. In my opinion this skirmish is not optional in an RTS no matter what price you put on a game. I bought an RTS to play, mostly, skirmish. It's litteraly the most essencial part of an RTS
Previous mow titles had a singleplayer focus. Mow as 1 and 2 are multiplayer focused. Because even the singleplayer missions are designed with coop in mind. Thus have no linear story.
Mow has never had ai skirmish like cnc or random map ai like age of empires. They may be rts. But completely different. Completely different engines. Completely different ai logic. Cnc has hard coded bases. This allows for easy scripting the ai to attack the base.
Mow has no bases or HQ so the ai is much harder to code. What do you tell it to do?
Attack?
If only it were that simple.
How do you tell the ai to play competitive?
Use advanced strategies like hiding stealth bazooka in enermies spawn ready to pounce at the sight of a big tank?
Plus mow is a much more complex game each unit has it's own inventory and ammo.
Each unit can have its own orders.
No. The ai is bad. It will always be bad. Always. It would require lots and lots of scripts to make a somewhat intelligent ai. Not really worth the investment. Especially when you gotta consider the balance between performance playability and ai intelligence.
What effect would all of these script have on game performance? Especially lower end computers.
Take a look at Divide et Impera mod for rome total war 2. Great mod. Makes ai much more intelligent. The downside?
Load time between battles and campaign map has turned from 20s to 2.5 minutes.
There is also the fact that the game is 2 odd years old now running on the same somewhat modified engine since Faces of War (2006)
I think you are lost between your own moral values " Oh but rts always have skirmish ai."
And devs moral values "We made the skirmish ai after release because people wanted it. However if they really want it; They have to pay for our hard work. We need to feed the kids."
I did see that this game is multiplayer focused and I defenitly agree with your point of view, but I'm moslty a solo guy and personaly I excepted something more and different as there is no bases. But the game should appeal as much as solo people as multiplayer people. And I agree the AI is ♥♥♥♥ but they could've work a little harder to make it work better than it currently, maybe update it slowly.
But I agree, this is a heavily multiplayer based game.
