Flamethrowers and tanks
In this game a flame thrower can take out a tank after about 3-4 seconds of continuous fire. I was wondering if anyone knew how realistic this is. It seems that it would take more than 3-4 seconds in real life to cook the inside of a tank in tell it either killed the crew, ignited the fuel or ammunition. Please let me know what you think and if you can verify this based on historical sources.

Molotov cocktails were used to destroy tanks so I don't see why not.

You're basically cooking the crew with high heat and depriving them of oxygen. Flaming chemicals probably aren't all that good for an engine either.

Of course, a flamethrower is a massive target with a short range so it's kinda on you if you lose a tank like that.

there is also a chance of the vehicles fuel catching fire too.... especially if flamer is amied at rear of tanks etc....

Great way of taking down any tank..... all tanks in game are vulnerable to flamers & engine area... to my knowlege anyways....

3-4 seconds seems way too quick, I think it would take a lot more time to get the metal of the tank hot unless the flamer thrower was aiming at a specific hole like an opening. But if the tank is closed up the crew would have more than enought time to move the gun and kill the flamethrower dude before the tank was even warm inside.
Unless.... Does the turret rotation power ceom from the engine? Becasue the flames would starve the engine of oxygen and it would shut down leaving the flamer to take his time to heat up the tank..
But the real question is on who is taking a tank out with no ground troops to support it. There should be no way flamethrower soldier is getting within 10 meters (or whatever the range is) of a tank.

The only part that in game can burn tank is the engine, and that is completelt realistic as the engine pulls the flames with the air exhaustion to inside the tank. The tanks will not burn if you fire them with flamer, only the engine can ignite.

I think some people don't have a real idea of how a flamer works...

2-3 seconds is enought to "disable" a tank with a good position.
Flamers are liquid, not gas. So if u get the stream of fire in any open area of tank(hatch, engine covers, peep holes or whatnot depending on tank), it will disable it.

If the engine starts burning, sure it wont get inta killed, but will be disabled, cause without the engine a tank is just a pillbox.
If u get some of it on the crew, try putting out a fire inside that small space when you and 1 or 2 more people are on fire...

Just cause some1 said the croc was OP in this game vs a tiger close range a few days ago. Its fire...

Actually after continious fire tanks can be destroyed by flames to the hull, the tank will be set on fire, like a building for example, if you are firing at the center of the tank, ambient flame will reach the engine, thought it takes much more time than firing right at the engine.
