RobZ: Anti-Tank guns vs. Tank Destroyers vs. Tanks
So what do you guys think is better for killing tanks? Usually there is always an anti tank gun with the same gun as a tank destroyer and tank. And usually the anti tank gun is the cheapest, then comes the tank destroyer and last but not least the tank.

For example:
7.5 cm PaK has the same gun as the StuG 3 (which is a bit more pricier but comes with armour) and the Panzer 4 (which has a turret in comparison to the StuG 3).

So if you were to go for max. cost effectiveness you would go for anti tank guns only since they always give you same penetration/gun for less money than the equivalent tank/tank destroyer. However the TD obviously has armour (sometimes even better than the equivalent tank) and the tank obviously has a turret.

I have been playing this mod since the old days (about 3 years ago) and have recently started playing again. I got about 250 games in this mod.

Yet I never could figure out if the armour from the tank destroyer or the turret from the tank is worth the extra MP cost over the anti tank gun.

if you have a good amount of infantry protecting the AT gun, sure, go with the AT gun.
id suggest positioning it in a cheeki breeki spot tho, soo the enemy tank youre firing at cant just dab that space key and kill you with HE.
TL;DR:
dont place AT guns in open fields.
oh and:
tank destroyers often always completely rely on one of these / trade up every other aspect for this:
-extreme front armor
-huge gun (very rare, but an example is the object 120)
-extreme speed
-huge gun depression (also very rare, an example of this is the sturer emil
oh and tank destroyers without a turret trade up their versatility for faster reload, or more mobility, or a bigger gun.

With at guns you get stealth and they are harder to kill with tanks, since he has less range and the target is smaller. Depends on a map, but most maps have flat/open areas which are good for at guns.

in an open field, a AT gun can be easily destroyed by HE.
id suggest hiding it in bushes behind a couple of trees.
