AS2 versions of DCG will be updated with new versions of the main exe, but since the team member who were responsible for the unit packs for AS2 has left the team to join GoH, it will most likely not recieve any new models etc.
~Zeke.
What's GoH?
One thing I thought of--you could potentially rip a ton of models for visual variety and expanded rosters (particularly the missing Italians in North Africa) out of the MoW Origins DLC. Rather than including the files in your mod (which would more than likely be problematic from a copyright perspective) you could include a .bat file that automatically checks for the presence of the DLC and pulls out the relevent content for inclusion in the mod. The same is probably true for maps (AS2 feels a little repetitive).
Have definitely been disappointed that AS2 DCG hasn't quite caught up to the high standards set by the original MoW--it's a much, much prettier and more user-friendly game, with auto-resupply, better infantry behavior and a host of other all-around gameplay improvements. I bought MoW just to play the 'real' DCG but to be honest, it is a fairly substantial downgrade.
GoH = Gates of Hell, but I wont say anything else about it, since it is a rival game to AS2.
I dont own any DLCs for AS2 (except the first one, Iron something?) so I have no idea what new vehicles and/or maps the later DLCs contains).
~Zeke.
Ps. Thanks for playing DCG, as long as people are playing our mod, the development of it will continue, after all, we have been working on DCG since 2006 (Faces of War) but the original mod, MisGen begun to be developed earlier still (Soldiers: Heroes of World War II).
DCG is really a fantastic mod, you guys probably deserve a lot of the credit for the series' popularity over the years. I've found the stock missions, with no sense of progression, to be a little lacking.
All new models in DCG 5.5 (for example Panzerfahre, all Polish new models etc) are not to be used in any other mods than DCG. When and if they are released for AS2, I will port and release them myself - I wont repeat the mistake I did with my Italian work twice.
~Zeke.
On my first mission I...acquired...three supply trucks, a pair of fuel trucks, and two artillery pieces, but I only captured one of the artillery.
What governs what you keep?
It is probably best if you ask on their ModDB page, but I believe that
- map related equipment can't be captured
- the vehicle must be fully repaired
Captured vehicles must be able to move after the battle, ie no fully destroyed wheels, or red damaged tracks and no damage to the engine. Wheels can be left damaged in red and will still be kept, but not if all its wheel are red damaged, at least one wheel must be left undamaged.
The team behind DCG has lost most of its members, several has left to work on Gates of Hell, some has left due to boredom with MoW games, and one left due to being fed up with modders "borrowing" our DCG stuff to be used in their own mods without giving us credit.Which leaves us with just two members left, Jason1 (coder and team leader) and me (3d models, skins, maps). However, my interest in RTS games are at a minimum at the moment, and even if I still do work little on the mod, most of my time is spent playing Fallout 76 these days. And to be honest, having your work constantly stolen by other mods, makes me wonder if I will continue to add stuff to DCG.
~Zeke.
The artillery I captured were mobile after the previous owners were forcibly removed, but one must have sustained damage that I missed.
It's a shame that other's thievery has soured your attitude towards DCG, Zeke, it's a really good mod, it's great that you still work on it.
I'm thoroughly enjoying it. So far I'm only a few weeks into the early days of the war, so I might be cursing you when I'm being overrun by the Bolshevik horde :D
@Twan I know what you mean by inventory management. For every minute I battle, I probably spend fifteen stripping corpses and vehicles of useful loot and ammo :)
