What to do with objects I don't immediately need?

I bought some utilities from the general store to dig up some holes and go in the church but I don't think will need them again any time soon. Is there a place a can store them for later use or should I just drop them anywhere and buy another one once I need it?

Press Q and toss in the ground

If you leave items/food on a table or bench it will spawn on the floor underneath, at least when left in the apartment.
