I think it died, because they charged 40 euros where essentially you can play the same games for free. Also the whole pronounce thing and ugly characters did not helped much.
I would pay extra in a one time purchase just to not have macro-transactions in my face, but maybe it wasn't the best idea to have that kind of monetization on a live-service hero-shooter game.
I honestly think it's more they used DEI to try and compensate for what was already a bad game.
And yeah the access fee certainly didn't help when there's better F2P options out there.
Here's the thing though, games DO fail because of DEI, because DEI is always prioritized over gameplay and game design. DEI games never have good gameplay or game design as a result. Forza Horizon 5 was heavy into DEI, but the gameplay sucks because there is no sense of progression or accomplishment and the development focus of that game is the DEI characters (prosethics, body type options instead of male or female options) and making everything look pretty over a good racing game. It's just a vapid and empty experience as a result. But the devs won't care, because they think they're fighting the system, when they are the system that controls everything.
The DEI had a bad effect on the character designs, not necessarily that they were a diverse cast being the issue but an ugly cast and to trying to pander to the "inclusive" side of DEI way to much. If the characters were better designed and the women more attractive this would done a bit better I'd wager. Overall yes I agree this game had other flaws beyond just to much DEI pandering.
I mean i could be crazy here and I could just be talkin out my ass but... MAYBE concord failed because...
...and get this...
IT WAS A BLAND, BORING GAME??????
IMO it had nothing to do with DEI and if you ask me, thats a conversation that should ♥♥♥♥♥♥ stay on /pol/. It was just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥, boring game that was ten years late to the whole hero shooter craze. Overwatch had what some may argue to be DEI elements in it and none of you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about that?
