Failure of this game led to price increase in PS5?

It was announced too shortly after the game was released and numbers shown that it will be a flop. My guess is there's a link between two events. Games like this are a risky investment.

Sony might want to hire an ACTUAL Economist to explain these concepts to them.

It's the 3rd price increase of the PS5 since launch & it'll only get worse since SONY doesn't really have competition anymore.

Xbox/Windows is basically one platform now, Microsoft realized a long time ago they sit on the largest gaming platform of them all. They down prioritized the hardware part to focus more on the ecosystem and services and gamepass continue to great value.

No, the price increase is only in Japan, it’s because of the weak value of the Yen. The console has already seen price increases in virtually all markets other than the US. Sony has not been able to effectively reduce the production costs for the console unlike prior generations (where we would likely have seen a $50-$100 price reduction this far into the generation). The cost of GDDR6 modules and the 6nm production node used for the main APU (as well as increasing NVMe prices) means that the PS5 is probably barely any cheaper to manufacture than it was in 2020. We’ve seen similar things from Nvidia, which is why they are leaning so heavily in marketing and developing software features like Frame Gen and DLSS, because it’s easier than offering performance increases (which would require the same or larger die sizes) at lower price points like the xx60 and xx70 series products.

Sony always have been selling the PlayStation under it's production value covering the loss with selling games and taking royalties from game developers.

So I think Concord failure could be partially the reason for this.

So I think Concord failure could be partially the reason for this.

They still attempt to sell the console at a slight profit. They haven’t sold consoles at a loss for a while now. There have been multiple revisions to the PS5 with reductions in the amount of copper used on the heatsink and switched from 7nm at launch to 6nm (because they can fit more chips on a single wafer and 6nm is cooler/more efficient at the same TDP. Unlikely that Sony would have a knee jerk reactions to a single failed product. The profits from Helldivers 2 probably covers the losses from Concord. Last I heard it was over 12 million copies and the budget is smaller than Concord from less cinematics/production capture/facial animation.
