More info on the differences between versions?

I see everybody talking about this game being originally released on 2 consoles, Dreamcast (the version from which this remaster is mostly taken), and PS1. Until today, I never heard of either of those 2 versions of this game, probably due to me never owning either of those consoles. The only version of this game I knew about, and therefore the only one I played, was on Game Boy Advance. I remember it as being one of the worst GBA games I ever played, up there with Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, etc. So when I heard that this remaster was being made, my first reaction was, "Why in the world would you want to remaster that?" But seeing it now, this really doesn't look very much like what I played. What I don't know is if the versions were really that different, or if it's just the only time I'm seeing the game as it was on a real 3D console, rather than a 2D handheld. So tell me, how is this version of the game different from the GBA one that I played, and why or why not should I get it if I wasn't a fan of that one?
