Aside: ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ was not expecting to get an answer this quickly
So being able to reach both if you time it right could be a bug, not a feature.
I got great dice and great rolls, had scrap almost done when the engine was fixed. It said contact complete but I didn't check the chits as I wanted to get the extra scrap.
I got the components but I can't see them in my inventory. Log doesn't appear to have tracked anything either.
You're only supposed to have one. If you do both before fixing her ship you fail the contract cause she gets upset that you robbed her.
By fixing her ship and salvaging one location or vicsacersa you accepted the agreement of the contract and she gets the other half.
Can you quote the exact lines you're referring to here? Unless it was changed in an update, I just looked up the conversation again and I can't find it. The closest I could find is "By rights, that building's mine. Scrapper's claim. But you help me get her running and you are welcome to take what you want from it. Up to a maximum of 50% of raw mass, that is." and "Anyway, you're leaving with nothing, unless my girl here is back in shape by the time y'are done." Neither of which is an explicit statement to not salvage both locations or to have it done before or after fixing the ship.
I think the biggest source of confusion with this is "Up to 50% of raw mass." There's a lot of ways you could break that down (I thought it would be exactly 50% of scrap/50% of components found but you could feasibly also say no scrap/100% of components or even 25% scrap/75% components or vice versa). If it's an uneven split, the amount becomes even more nebulous because the game doesn't tell you how much each piece of scrap or engine component weighs (0% of 25 kg of scrap doesn't equal 100% of 5 kg of components) or how many of either you find in total (you only see the amount that gets deposited into your cargo and it doesn't get subtracted later).
It doesn't help that the contract ends with you realizing that she never actually took her half of the haul.
