Citing myself to double-down on this now as a firm recommendation.
Do not try to bash the face.
Just hit the body
In particular, hit the body part below and left of the face.
I find this 100% reliably prevents them from locking on, and if you deliver a series of short and modestly rapid punches it effectively stun-locks them. This is of course for 1 Alphadog. If you find yourself surrounded by half a dozen and with a thumper above you then rejoice!
The old ones were a lot more readable too, and the natural overheat made it easy to understand when to strike, and rewarding you for it too.
Maybe im just experiencing a skill issue though since its new.
Uhh... what?
That's literally the opposite of what it says.
"Drop what your doing to focus on this enemy" is very similar to (the first half of) "stop everything and run", and describes what my original playstyle against aplha dogs was (and tbh still is)
And now it feels harder to do that (to me) because turbo and overheat are no longer used to communicate the state of the alpha dog
Kinda wish King suggested that in the voice lines because thats a game changer.
