alpha dogs (AD) tutorial please

Lately I've been playing rampage mode a lot and it has way too many alpha dogs to just take a random chance and hope for the best.
How do you know when to attack or not?
It used to be easy :
turbo blue = dont touch
red = go!
But now, it seems I can get trapped pretty much under any circonstances, random.
Claws open or closed : doesnt matter.
Slam into it head first : works sometimes, but not always.
Nail it and work from the back : works sometimes, but not always.

I know I can hit their legs but it has armor, so reduced dmg, which is too long,
So I just hit as hard as possible to kill it in just a few hit to reduce chances, but thats not good enough.

I hope there's some better way. What is it?

Usually strafing and hooking into the side of their heads, They make a wind up sound and open up their mouth thing... Thats when you start to strafe, you can always just continue to to do this until it has closed their mouth again then hit them. They also really dont like to bonked on the top of the head. If i have a grabber weapon i like to find a nearby smaller enemy and shove it in their mouth as they charge, same with bombs. They latch on to whatever they hit first.

Using the buzzsaw as a traversal method, can help you zip about the area if you tired of moving yourself. Straight line only though.

Kinda +1 this. I miss the old days where there was an easy indicaor for if an alphadog was safe to punch or not. nowadays i just try to kil it before its first roar because after then it becomes a difficult guessing game

ngl alpha dog is seriously a 50/50
Stunned it? get grabbed.
mouth closed? get grabbed.
ik they deal less damage but still hate to get grabbed while you are surrounded.

my suggest is nailgun on their feet if they run toward you.
but seriously nailgun always my best go to weapon on the left arm while on the right is a grabber

Seems like a bad design, sadly.

side step it and hit it on the side or back of the head. if you must punch it in the mouth then immediately smack it with the other hand. build stun dmg so you can close its mouth. impact also works if you smack it in the chest w uppercut.

I've also seen this a lot. They're very inconsistent where often they'll grab you even when their jaws are closed. My best method for them is to ignore their heads entirely. If you have a nailgun, spike them in the side to the ground so they can't move, then just punch them in the back. If not you can hit them with both arms as a double uppercut to lift them off the ground where they'll get ragdolled when they crash back down due to how crazy heavy they are. It's a lot of effort when they start getting speed boosts but it works. With enough Power you can do it with one hand but by that point you can probably just 1-2 shot their heads anyways.
