General Failure Crash
so I started playing a few days after launch and everything worked fine, now after the latest patch my game crashes just before a level or match finishes loading sending me directly to my desktop with a "general failure" msg to greet me.this happens every time in all game modes on both the remastered games. however i have found that bringing the resolution down to 720 from 1080 seems to allow a level to load successfully. if anyone has found a fix or is even having the same problem as me please comment on this thread.

I was able to get things to run without crashing by setting the Texture Size Limit from 8192 to 2048. I did lots of testing, and it seems like when that is higher with all other options default, it crashes. Would anyone else like to try this out and see how it goes for them? Not saying this is a guaranteed fix, but it worked for me.

This fixed the issue for me, and the rest of my settings are set up for 'bells & whistles' performance. If folks are still having trouble, give this a try.
Well it was working for a bit then all of a sudden the game is crashing on me again. This is beyond annoying.
how do you change setting if damn thing doesnt even load? im trying to play complex mod.. or any for that matter and i get straight ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in the face (aka 'general failure')

general failure, trying every workaround i can find on the forums is to no avail. i think it just doesnt work for some people at all.
I had to remove all versions of Microsoft Visual C++ 2005-2010 and leave just the two 2012 ones from above 86/64 and my backup software needed 2017 so 2015-2022 is also installed. I am not sure if 2013 causes the issue but I removed them also and can now load into games. I would suggest that with the new C++ install all scipts out there to update C++ Gearbox/Steam needs to update Homeworld to run with all versions installed.

Here is a crash log to show the issue from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Homeworld\HomeworldRM\bin\Release

HomeworldRM.exe caused a Microsoft C++ Exception in module KERNELBASE.dll at 0023:761efa72.

HomeworldRM.exe running out of RAM is probably the root cause. It's a 32-bit compiled .exe with a 2 GB RAM limit. I tried so many different things but realised today that a RAM limit is probably the cause of most people's problems with this general failure error message.

Try using the Large Address Aware tool to change HomeworldRM.exe to be able to address 4 GB of RAM. This should fix the issue. Fixed it for me.

Thank you. I tried so much stuff in my BIOS with no luck before seeing this with no luck. This worked perfectly for me, legend. Strongly advise anyone still having issues to give this a go
