Cataclysms source code was lost in time.

It kinda starts to become annoying with each new where is cataclysm yadda yadda yadda thread :P there are existing threads already just gotta bump them up.

All over, as it turns out.

Joking aside, apparently the original source code was lost at some point between the original publisher going under and the rights to Homeworld being bought by Gearbox. Same story as the expansions for Heroes of Might & Magic III's HD remaster. : \

I'll bet that doesn't help.

It could be worse, it could be another "OMG Geabocks = Aleans coloneal marines!" thread.

Thanks for that Somon :)

I liked all homeworld games alot back in the day, but to me the best of them all were HC. Loved the story. And remember i locked myself in my room until i had completed the entire game/story :D

30 euro for a game that has already been played to death, just dont seem justifiable to me. Its not like its a brand new game.

No. When you compile a program it gets translated from for human readable source code (programming language) into binary code/machine language. It is almost impossible to reverse-translate from binary code to the original code or properly working code and if you could reverse-translate it to a point where it is readable and somewhat makes sense it'll take alot of work to then restructure and rewrite it so it actually works properly.

To give you a stupid analogy:
Imagine you have a block of butter (the working source code).
Now you'll heat that butter in a frying pan until it's liquid butter (the machine code).
Is there any way how you could make that liquid butter not only hard again but also so it has the exact same dimensions and molecular structure as before, with every single atom being in the original position (aka the original source code) as they were befire they got heated up? I don't think so.
