I used about 15 frigates for this mission. If you hold control and drag over the asteroids closest to your ships, they will attack them but avoid crashing into them. If you single-target attack the asteroids your ships won't avoid any you have not targeted, which is the main danger in the mission.

You only need to destroy the asteroids that are heading towards your mothership. If you angle the camera you can see which will hit easily.

As soon as a large asteroid explodes, control-drag over the explosion to target the smaller asteroids or your ships will get hit by them as they spawn.

I also used 3 support frigates, one permanently repairing the mothership, two on the rest of the fleet.

I lost 2 frigates and the mothership got hit twice I think.

i just used this trick and done it but now the script mission which is supposed to give me destroyer research won't pop!!! how broken is this game?
I thought the Destroyer research appears in Mission 6?

You need to load the mission from the mission select screen I had that bug too, It seems loading your autosave or manual save doesn't trigger it.

Also salavging the enemy destroyers in mission 5 makes 6 even more easy, they ♥♥♥♥ up asteroids

i am total noob and haven't salvaged much! everything seems too small to my eyes

also the smaller ships don't stay in formation with bigger ones and get rekt alone

there is no sterategy or micro its just one click attack! game is to easy and not immersive! guess i should not expect too much from an old school

Homeworld is all about strategy. It was the most immersive game I've ever played, because of the story.

I'm glad there is not much micro, I hate micro (aka StarCraft).

Keep your smaller ships behind your bigger ships and wait till the bigs engage and take enemy attention and then send them in, their speed should allow them to compensate for being behind the enemy, Also yea you can one click attack but its wiser to use micro, each ship type is better against certain ship types.
My last multiplayer game I focused Ion cannon frigates against the enemies carriers in the back of thier forces and they had no way to renforce mid-fight due to this, My flak frigates against his fighter/bomber groups and he lost the ships types he woulda built from the carrier, and my capital ships against his capital ships to keep the battle from going his way.

tell me about the sterategy! i just played 100 hours total war attila and there is a lot of micro and sterategy involved! i am not comparing the old game with the modern release just saying that i am steamrolling missions with 1 click attack! almost got bored

Also the mods that will be released, like Complex, make the game waaaaaaaay more microable and stratigic. Thats half the reason I bought this game. The normal game is great, but with mods its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AWESOME. Just like total war!

Mission 6 is easy if you have a destroyer, you can capture one in mission 5 as well as a few ION canon frigates. Also, make sure you have a few support ships to heal your mothership because it will take damage no matter what.

I had to redo mission 5 to get through 6 and managed to capture a lot of valuable ships that time around, it was well worth the replay.
