Can original Homeworld Cataclysm be played on a modern Windows 7 PC?
I think I tried to install it several years ago on XP and it didnt work. Wondering if I can reinstall it on Win 7 and play it? I still have the game. Also why do people say the source code is lost, cant they get the code from the game discs?

cataclysm works fine on XP and continues to do as such on 7+, the d3d renderer is a bit sluggish due to the deprecation of certain pre-DX9 Z formats in DirectX9, and to use OpenGL you must configure the executables properties to use NT 4.0 compatibility.

Also why do people say the source code is lost, cant they get the code from the game discs?

Source code is plain text programming language(C, C++) or even hand written machine code(ASM), the data on the game disk is compiled code.

so what this fine gentleman is saying in laymans terms is.
Cataclysm is cake
but to make it again requires the recipe that is lost somewhere.

Cataclysm works on my window 7 pc with no fiddling required

Ok sounds good. I have no idea how to configure the executables (.exe?) to use openGL. How would you do that?

Cataclysm ran on my windows 7 pc without any configuration required. first install your game see if it works , if it doesnt just search on google youll find an answer
had cataclysm installed on every pc ive owned since it came out. worked on my W7 machine and works fine on my W8 machine with no configuration required.

Homeworld Catacylsom works great in windows 7, biggest isssue people have is they need to patch the game to version 1.01, if it is not already, set compatibility mode to Windows NT and select Default Open GL in the video options.

Really no fiddling around, everything I mentioned is easy.
