I seem to recall working through killing the guns and capturing proxies (capital class!) and wiping out the Dawg with missile corvettes.
This. I killed him on my first encounter with him. Didn't touch me at all. Get 2 gravwell generators minimum, set them to follow your first wave (should be capital ships like destroyers and heavy cruisers), let your frigates and the rest follow. As soon as the Dog is coming, turn 1 gravwell on, boom - the dog is shut down, fire with all your fleet at him. Check out the gravwell until the generator is exhausted, turn the other gravwell on. Once the second one is depleted, your first one will be fully charged and you can do this as long as it takes for you to kill him. Boom. Done. Next.
This is the best suggestion. I was able to kill it in maybe 3 minutes with a group of heavy cruisers and destroyers.
This definitely needs fixing.
Put your ships in passive tactic... They will fire in agressive one, sure, not in passive.
Damn I wish I had read that before doing this mission. It was quite a pain in the ass, lost three destroyers and finally decided to build a vast fleet of heavy corvettes and destroy the turrets all the way to the ship wreck while my big guns remained behind my mothership. I made an attempt at recovering my destroyers with salvage coverettes but failed miserably.
I needlessly lost quite a lot of ressources doing this mission.
