Homeworld classic?
So what's the point of having them if the remastered version is going to be better, the classics don't even run on windows 7 right? so we can't even play them.

would there be any difference between them apart from slightly jazzed up graphics? usually remastered games come with extra content not available in some countries.

I have HW 1 and HWC running fine on Windows 7 64bit using Default opengl in the video settings, as well setting compatibility mode to Wndows NT, I also use dgVoodoo2.

Yeah looking on google I heard that HW has trouble running or can't run on win7 unless you tinker with the settings or something, thats why i never bought the game.

Like how fallout 3 is not compatible with win7 but apparently some people have got it working (but still doesn't work for me)

Homeworld wouldn't need any new content, the original plus 2 were the best RTS games of their time, and personally, I would not want them to be changed in any way, it would take away from the balanced dynamics the game enjoys. Besides, you'll have a revamped multiplayer, and if I remember right they had a map editor, so single player skirmish nor any multiplayer game will ever truly be the same

its "classic" not original. you are getting essentially hw 1 1.6. this included Modern OS support, long standing bug fixes and a few balance tweaks. the classics are being bundled for those who do not desire the upgraded graphics or possible gamplay changes that remastered versions will be using.

yeah they already said, that for the classics, all they have done is reworked the originals to work on modern systems, they have also reworked how mp works since the originals needed gamespy to work
They are making the classics run on modern systems so they will work. The idea is for those of us that want the orginal as they were to re live the glory days. Plus that way you can really see the difference they made with the remastered.

Sure they do. I played both just last week under windows 8. It does take some massaging to make it work properly though but it's certainly possible to play the old homeworld builds on modern systems.

The classic versions they're releasing have (supposedly) been changed enough so that they should run from Steam without needing any funky third-party apps or drivers.

As for why you would ever play them if you have the new versions: Probably to benefit ancient systems that can't handle the new versions. If you haven't changed your rig since 2004, then I see how the classic versions might have their appeal.

Homeworld and Homeworld Cataclysm running under Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit zock, such as wild only Homeworld 2 I get inhospitable degenerates ... guess is located on the driver graka .ansonst I have fun. Hut even more fun if I could get to run 2.

I finished cataclysm on my win 7 64bit system like a week ago, compatibility settings work for me just fine. Can't remember playing HW1 on this system but HW2 worked just fine aswell.

HW1 doesn't run on Win7? Strange. I wonder which game I installed from my HW1 disc that is installed on my Win7 machine right now. Oh, that's right. It's Homeworld.

Playing HW2 on win7 64 bit, no problem noticed.

In my opinion they should have released the classic version immediately as a sort of pre-order bonus.

Not all. Particularly AMD based systems have problems with their graphics drivers, and windows 8 has different rules regarding permissions than win 7. In win7x64 I had all 3 working in 1080p while they were installed on the D drive, on my newer win8x64 with only a C drive and AMD CPU+GPU I am scuppered. I can play HW1 and HW:C in software renderer only, resolution regedits do not work, and HW2 can not be made to work at all. The 'fixed' for win7x64 atioglxx.dll throws a similar exception in Homeworld2.exe as the latest one that needs 'fixing' for it to work.

These problems are only going to become more complicated and eventually unfixable - unless a someone makes a rerelease with the driver call problems sorted in the actual .exe which means someone with the rights to the software with access to the source etc. you see where I am going with this :)
