Some questions about resources, group make up control , fleet size and carriers [HW1]
1. I've seen discussions re: auto-harvesting resources after you've won a mission when you hyperspace out. Does anyone know definitavely whether you get all map resources, a % of resources, or only those resources you have "scouted" from this auto-harvest?

2. I have read somewhere that the game scales the opposition forces to what you yourself have carried with you from the end of the previous mission meaning there is a big dissincetive to building more ships than you need and a big incentive to scrapping captured ships for the RU unless there is something special or specially useful about them. Is this true?

3. In the mission prior to the asteroid mission I captured the enemy carrier (it's of a race type beginning with letter "T", can't remember exact name). This carrier does not appear to be able to actually do anything for me (judging from the bottom right button bank) except set or move rally points. Why is this and Is there any advantage in keeping this ship/what use is it?

4. I am reading that the core of combat game play is rock. paper, scissors based: you do not fight interceptors with inteceptors if you can help it, each class of ships has one that best counters it etc. So this means there is no such thing as a good general group make up (for example a defence group, an main attack group and a scout group) and you should clear down your groups and rebuild them tailored to the specific threats and opprtunities posed by each mission, right?

5. If so then suppose you want to assign 10 out 20 interceptors, 5 out 10 light corvettes and a 1 out of 3 support frigates to a group how do you do that given it is impossible to drag one box around just those ships specifically and moving all of them to a separate location where you can drag a box around them is very time consuming?

6. How cqn you tell if a position you select for a probe to move to makes the enemy capital ship within the probe's scanner range but the probe itself outside the enemies capital ship' scanner range?

1. You auto-harvest everything. I've specifically tested this out.

2. HW1 shouldn't have the dynamic difficulty scaling, but inherited it when being ported into the HW2.5 engine for the remaster. Being rather new myself, I'm not sure what advice I can give on the subject, but I hear that the campaign for HW1R severely punishes players who salvage everything.

3. I think it's a bug; everybody that I've heard has capture the Taiidan carrier was unable to use it; just scrap it for the RU.

4. Yes, it's very counter-based.

5. Hold Shift and select the ships you would like to add to a control group. This can be tedious, but it's really the only way to get certain ships into specific groups.

6. Once you understand the sensor ranges, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out. Probes have a huge range. A single Hiigaran probe in the dead center of Kharam Wreck (at least the two-player version) can light up all but the outer-most edges of the map.

2. About the dynamic scaling, HW1 classic had really limited (barely noticeable) dynamic scaling, but it is fullblown on the remaster. Just managed to get 6 assault frigates in mission 3.

3. Not known if its a bug or an established thing, but the Taidan carrier can't build things.

4. Its the counter-based gameplay from HW2 (the remastered engine comes from HW2 and HW1R is a big mod over it)

Hi there,
Phoenix RE Auto Harvesting are you referring to collectors banking what they have already gathered before Hyperspace recall? I'm at level 10 and I'm just wondering why it is becoming so hands on with resource collecting, specifically having to constantly issue the collect button as they seem to collect some and then wait for new orders instead of scouting around....or must I have another unit in the area revealing RU before collectors harvest? :vaygr:
