Once you have reinstalled, open Finder and press Cmd+Shift+G and type the following, replacing the '<my account>' with your actual OSX account SHORT name. Google that if you don't know how to get it.
/Users/<my account>/Library and click GO.
Now click on Application Support, Steam, steamapps, common, Homeworld
Now right click (you may have to configure right click use in System because Apple has ♥♥♥♥ for brains and thinks you do too) and click Show Package Contents. Double Click on Contents, Assets.
You should now see a folder called SoundTrack. Copy and Paste it somewhere sane - maybe your Music folder.
Note to Steam - it is not acceptable to put soundtracks here. You are breaking the rule of least surprise. You may also note this is not the location given in your instructions. Wake up and smell the coffee!
This is pretty terrible.
There is an alternative. If you have a PC, you can download that version and get the ST DLC put in a sane(ish) place, along side the game folders. It even adds it to your music library accessed from the steam app.
It seems the Steam OSX front-end is glitchy. The locations it stores apps is not even approved or reasonable (Library, really!) ! I also found it trying to set universal permissions (777) on the Library folder - talk about irresponsible.
Thank you for posting this.
