Which order to play?

For new player like me, which should I start with: Homeworld REMASTERED collection. or Homeworld DESERTS OF KAZAKSTAN?

reddit says "As someone who generally played the games as they were released, I'd say start with HW1, as that really gets you invested in the story. Then Dok, as a prequel to HW1, then Cataclysm then HW2."

cata, while amazing is not considered part of the lore for HW2. cata is 100% the best story, but you dont need to play it to understand HW2.

I will suggest you start with Homeworld DESERTs first. Its easier to play with a understanding how the 1st core is found. Then Homeworld 1 which is a fairly difficult but not impossible and lastly Homeworld 2 because you'll be pulling your hair for not winning.

Don't play dok first because there is so much fan service in it you won't understand until you play homeworld.

hmmmmmmm. The original is so boringly slow to start..with empty black space as a backdrop. I think this was a mistake.

I feel like release order is best for most things. I haven't gotten around to DoK yet, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't appreciate HW2 as much if I had played it before HW1.
