Need help with formations
In an earlier discussion I asked how to get better at Homeworld, people told me to use formations. As they said I tried some formations, but they don't seen to work properly. I tried a capital pharlanx with 2 battlecruisers and 10 ion cannon frigates so the battlecruisers are at the front to take all the damage so the weaker frigates stay intact. But instead they're breaking up the formation when I attack so the battlecruisers stay at range and the frigates are at the front wich is kinda annoying because ion cannon frigates are very vulnerable and have very little defensive capabillities so the get anihillated.
Similar with interceptors. When I build 8 interceptor Squadron and put the into a delta formation (So they should create 4 larger Squadrons) they are breaking up too when I engage.
Bombers are working fine I a
X-formation.

Any ideas?

Use different groupes and assign a formation to each one.

2: 6 Gunships in Delta formation

3: 6 Bombers in X formation

4: 8 Pulsar Gunships in Delta

5: 4 Flak Frigates

6: 5 Torpedo Frigates

7: 10 Ion Cannon Frigates

8: 2 Marine Frigates

9: 5 Destroyers

10: 2 Battlecruisers and the 10 Ion
Cannon Frigates in Capital
formation

Btw I'm trying to mix 10 Ion Cannon Frigates with one Defensive Field Frigate in a formation, but they don't want to put it into the middle so it can schield all frigates.

Try X formtion for fighters (good against other fighters)
V formation for bombers (good hitting a capital ship)
Wall formation for Corvettes. (keeps them aiming at the same target better)

Also learn about when to use offensive, defensive, passive, aggressive, evasive, neutral.
There are many ways to use these in combinations.. You will be surprised how they help.

For example if you want your fighters to stick around longer, try evasive with offensive. It puts most of the power to the engines and makes them hard to hit. Yet offensive makes them go after other ships.

If you want to hit a single ship really hard and fast put it on offensive and aggressive. This makes them go after other ships and put most of its power to the firing. Though it makes them easier to get hit because the engines slow down.

These really work I have used them. You have to experiment with different situations.

Big Guns:
This version of Homeworld is where the big guns come out. Battle cruiser vs Battle cruiser.
You can sacrifice 2-3 Marine frigates if you use bomber squadrons to take out guns: they will concentrate on the Frigates while you tear em up with your own Battle cruiser.
