Homeworld 1 or 2 ? Which should I play first.

Hi, I've never played either of these games before and really have never played any space based strategy games before... Although I id try to get into sword of the stars a bit but never really got anywhere.
Basically I'd just like a heads up if one is considered way better than the other. Normally I'd just play the 2nd one first since I would expect better graphics more detailed ships etc. But since sometimes sequels are simplified versions of the games they are based on and these are remastered editions... I was wondering should I play 1 or 2 ?
I have played a lot of RTS before if that makes any difference.

Seeing as you have played a lot of RTS, my advice is to play them both at once.

I guess I was wondering about the single player campaigns, whether one was noticeably better than the other...

Homeworld 2 does have better graphics and it is more simplified as you said, and I do play it much more than Homeworld 1...but I'd say go through Homeworld 1 first. It's harder to appreciate the sequel if you haven't played the original.

If you play the Remaster, just do HW1 then Hw2. They both have the same controls.

When you say “HW1 or HW2” people will assume you are talking about the classic versions of each.

silly question really, if you havnt played them before, why would you play a sequel before the original. Also, seeing as they are both remastered and using the same engine, they both look the same graphicly.

HW1 story was WAY better but HW2 is more refined and plays better. They're both good for different reasons. Play them both. I recommend playing them in chronological order but I suppose you're free to do as you please.

If you mean should you play HW1 before HW2, then you should because the story for 1 chains to the story for 2. The full experience would deepen your appreciation for Homeworld. If you mean should you play the classic before the remastered, then no, not unless you want a challenge. The HW1 classic had fuel for its fighters, which they removed in the remastered, but I thought it was a good resource contention to have. There's also a third HW game that wasn't included in this collection, called "Homeworld: Cataclysm" which was considered an expansion with an unrelated storyline. And now we have the recent "Homeworld: Deserts of Kharack" which is okay, but it's ground-based.
