Mission 16
I am having a really hard time with mission sixteen in homworld one. I am able to destroy the fighters and ion cannon frigates, but i cannot produce ships quick enough to destroy the four destroyers and heavy cruisers that jump in. I am guessing I am supposed to have more destroyers, but they were destroyed in the last battle and I am unable to build any ship big enough to make an impact in time. It takes them the time it takes to build a destroyer to kill me. The only good ship I have is a heavy cruiser. I have tried making attack bombers but that doesn't really help. Any tips?

Usually in this case I'd load up the save from the end of the last mission, and sit around building up my fleet before tackling the next mission.

Make sensor array and be prepared for 4 waves if you dont have enough ships load game or two before and build up, should be able to plow through with capitals and all 5 fregates healing them, when attacking go for biggest ones then work your way down

I tried that, it worked pretty well, now i have 3 destroyers and 2 heavy cruisers. However I cannot draw their fire away from the mothership. The destroyer group that hyperspaces in doesnt pay attention to my destroyers and just all target the mothership. Should i maybe move my ships to block their fire?

You have to move to meet the enemy before they begin their attack. I don't remember the waves off the top of my head, but I do know the first big wave has heavy cruisers and DDs which will beeline for your MS. You need to be moving to attack the SECOND the mission begins, skip the dialogue or anything else that might be slowing you down. Have all your cruisers take out their capitals, if you have many bombers you can kill their engines too.

Also, have every repair vessel you have helping the mothership.

You're the victim of dynamic scaling - the bigger and badder your fleet is on mission start, the stronger the enemy is to compensate.

You should also know that the units the AI is using are not the same as your ones. Take a look at the stats on their ion cannon frigates for example!

Thanks! That helped but they actually hyperspace in extremely close to my mothership. Their ships are 2 destroyers 2 missile destroyers and a few assault frigates and one heavy cruiser. I actually have better ships than them but they ignore them and go straight for the mothership.

Mission 16 has never seemed to have much DDS (at least in the remaster). It's just that everything in HW:R deals more damage than it did in the original (and in the original mission 16 gave your mothership a massive beating that could easily have killed it), so it's very difficult to kill everything quickly enough.

You should also have lots of ion frigates >10, some yours some captured use them to focus down enemy and gl

Its all nice that you say "you need massive fleet" but i actually have been harvesting every world if possible for every RU possible. That means when i killed all enemy or stole their crafts i kept harvesting till the harvesters returned by lack of RU fields to harvest. And guess what i constant have not enough to keep up the massive damage in the remastered version.
So by the time you get to lvl 16 you can not survive. In the end i actually tried to find a solution for the everlasting shortage of cash in the game, but nothing does work. I stole as much crafts from the enemy or tried to make less crafts but nothing gives the solution. So tell me how do you get such a large fleet, because for me its impossible. I do not believe you can get such a large fleet without cheating

I had money problems only on first few missions till ive got capitals then all you do is guard and repair them and plow through campaign and capture as much as possible, pause and command dock or repair if lose too much reload

max out on salvage corvettes and steal a heavy cruiser and a destroyer every single wave. By the time you've held off all the waves, you could have more than double your cap in heavy cruisers. Similarly, when you finally attack the Taiidan Flagship, send your fleet above the asteroid belt and your salvage corvettes below. Use the corvettes to deactivate and steal two heavy cruisers and your fleet to kill the remaining cruiser, flagship, and the two missile destroyers.

In level 14 there are 150 ion cannon frigates (classic version - may be different for the remaster) waiting to be captured. It's a tedious job but I find that they can beat level 15 along with the loss of maybe a dozen, and if you like fireworks they're great fun to watch in sphere formation.
PS Having read other Forum threads I find I'm talking rubbish. My apologies.

Its been 20 years since I played. Playing RM version. I ended up with a small fleet by mission 16. 1 Destroyer, 1 missile destroyer, 1 cruiser. maybe 10 ion frigates, couple of assault and drone frigate. 20 something corvettes. and a carrier.
I had 6 support frigates healing the mothership. It didn't do anything.
I took out their cruiser and 1 missile destroyer quickly, as well as the ion frigates below and front.
Still can't handle it.
everyone is talking about dynamic scaling. I've yet to see it I guess.
I read one walkthrough that stated the same numbers I've been seeing. 1 cruiser, 2 destroyers, 2 missile, one bottom squad of ions, 1 ion and 1 assualt squad from front. Then corvettes from the above carrier.

What enemy does dynamic scaling vs a large fleet put against you?
