Uncontrollable Yaw W/Joystick
Back in the day I played the heck out of Red Baron, so when I found this game I was very excited. I bought a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro to use with it, as I figured a joystick would be helpful (I remembered having to get a Microsoft Sidewinder to play Red Baron properly).

However, I'm running into an issue with a ridiculous amount of left yaw when I'm getting ready to take off. Once the throttle is up to maximum and the plane starts to move, I don't just veer a bit to the left, the plane turns constantly leftward. I've used the joystick twist to counter, but have found that I'm unable to maintain control of the plane/bounce all over and invariably either overturn or end up colliding with trees.

I tried turning on the Auto-Rudder, but that makes no difference. I also tried controlling with the mouse, and found that this works well. There's some slight yaw when I'm taking off, but nothing I can't counter and I'm able to get into the air. The issue, though, is that controlling with the mouse is a heck of a lot less precise than a joystick, and I'd really like to use the 3D Pro since I bought it for this game.

I've tried checking other support forums, but the only other person who had this problem was basically told to buy a joystick/use the rudder. I've tried unplugging the joystick, plugging it back in and re-calibrating it in Windows, just in case the handle needed to be reset or something, but no dice. Any ideas?

You can mess with the input curve for the yaw in the settings, invert it, make it more or less, etc. There are some youtube videos I used to use a twist joystick and got the yaw working fine with it. Checking simplified physics in the settings before you go into the mission helps sort out some of the bouncing around as well. Hope that helps.

Thanks. I was able to get it to where i can consistently take off, however the "left lean" continues even in flight. It just feels more like an input problem, or bug/issue, than part of the realism of the game since I can use the mouse without issue.

I will check out the Youtube videos on the input curves and see if that helps any. Checking simplified physics would make me feel like I'm "cheating", though. I want it to be challenging, I just don't want to constantly be wrestling my joystick to the right for the entire flight.

You are wrestling with the torque effect from the prop. In more modern planes this is handled with trim but that wasn't available during WW I so it's something you will have to get used to.

I had the same problem, as far as i remember i altered the yaw curve too, makes things less sensitive, also check you are getting full Rudder movement. As with going loco in flight, i find going into autopilot A, steadies things up.

I have a problem similar to this as well where when I take off my rudder sticks to the left making me do circles on the runway unless I counter rudder with my pedal which is pretty hard to do I have tried everything with the yaw curve and inverting it etc. Please Help

With reference to the bold. Does the planes rudder (or rudder pedals) actually show as being stuck to the left contrary to your own physical inputs? Or is it just the plane turning left that gives you that impression? As otherwise its probrably just the "left turning tendancies" (torque effect, asymmetric propeller loading, gyroscopic precession, spiraling slipstream).

My advice is to gradually increase the power as you move rather than slamming the power on straight away, and then counter any swing with your rudder. I'm also of the opinion that what constitues an "tail wheel" in these early aircraft is not great for ground handling so I've always aimed to raise the "tail wheel" as soon as practical.

This video on the subject is one of Reqiuems BoX videos rather than his RoF videos but the theory and what to do remains the same.

The rudder is actually stuck to the left on my yaw curve it shows the rudders is not centered it is showing 100% input to the left and I am not touching anything? I understand that WW1 planes have a tendancy to turn but this is not the problem

Indeed that does not sound like just "left turning tendancies". The mistakes been made before though so was making sure. Sounds strange then. Would have thought it was just an calibration and curves issue then though. But sounds strange. Any duplicate control assignments for your rudder?

Post up or search on the proper forums I guess.

No duplicate controls just left rudder and right rudder

Hi Atomic_fryingpan,
have you found a solution for your problem with Rise of flight? Currently I have the same problem. Please let me know If you know how to fix it.

Yes I solved the issue you just need to create a deadzone or increase the current deadzone

I have the same! I couldnt control the plane in any way, and i didnt know what to do. Was the problem in my joystick or game/computer?
