Joystick Not Being Detected
The game doesn't seem to want to detect my joystick. I've used the joystick (Logitech Extreme 3D) and Throttle device (Saitek Pro Flight Quadrant) quite happily on Microsoft Flight Sim, DCS, and a couple of others... but on ROF it will recognise the throttle, but it's refusing to recognise the joystick.

The game is set to Joystick rather than Mouse input. When I go to try to map the game controls to the joystick, when it says "move the axis/hit a button", etc, I can waggle the joystick as much as I want, and it won't detect it.

It's plugged directly into a powered USB socket on the PC. I've tried both with and without the throttle plugged in. Restarted game between attempts, etc.

The joystick is working just fine in other games.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

RoF is an older sim/game (2009) and may not interface popularly with newer Plug-n-Play controllers; especially when using multiple control devices at the same time. Many players have used the Logitech Extreme 3d, as a standalone controller, for a number of years without having to change too many game option settings.

Your current setup (joystick & quadrant with a powered USB port) appears to work fine with previous flight sim/games e.g. DCS, Microsoft FX and others but, RoF may be an exception to the normal. Just as a guess, I would say you might have a hardware incompatibility problem when trying to setup RoF. RoF may not be able to differentiate between the combined 'axis' controls on both the joystick & quadrant.

I would suggest, as a test, unplugging the quadrant and any other control devices, except the joystick and try the RoF flight control options settings again.

If this allows the flight control axis' on the joystick to begin working, then add the external USB port and quadrant back into the system (one at a time) to check for compatibility.

Thanks,

Thanks, Lt. R D Vaughn.
I actually did all that, and managed to get the joystick working the other day - but it didn't work consistently (for example, the trigger button would sometimes be detected, and sometimes not, mid-game) and nothing I could do would allow me to look around in the cockpit.
Ultimately, I've uninstalled the game as being too much trouble to set up. I have others.
Appreciate the assistance, however.

I am sorry the game caused you so many problems that you lost interest. I am one of the long time player's who has helped many new RoF cadets. Over the years, I have found that RoF game setup can be relatively easy for some and very challenging for others.
The community has become much smaller the past few years so, I am regretful that we lost you as a potential flier.
Good luck, Thanks.
