I'm interested in the RN so thats one reason I considered that career cool. Your an bomber squadron using the Sopwith Strutter at Coudekerque. I remember the bombing targets including train stations, factories, airfields, fuel tanks or something like that. Though you would also dogfight with Germans on the occasions that you met them. But what made it cool for me was that you would also get missions to bomb the shipping thats berthed up in Ostende. Used to treat that Sopwith Strutter as though was an Blackburn Skua.

I went exactly the same direction as Oliver; No.5 Naval Squadron....loads of varied missions...loads of action....and, given the time frame, the Strutter proves itself an excellent machine. It handles well, providing a forgiving plane for green pilots as well as an awesome all rounder for more experienced pilots......gotta Love those Strutters ! The German opposition, within the time frame, has nothing as good.
No.5 Squadron move away from the Western Front around March/April of 1917. Just before that time, it's good to look for a transfer if you want to stay at the Front. The choice is yours but after three or four months with No.5, a pilot should have notched up a few promotions. As such, a pilot then has the choice of whether he fancies a continued career in bombers or if he would prefer a fighter or recon. squadron.
Personally, I'm lookin to remain on the Western Front by transfering to No.18 Squadron. I'll be in F.E.2bs for a short while then they get equiped with the D.H.4s by around May of 1917 for the duration......looking forwards to that. Some squadrons end up in Bristols; as do Squadrons 20 and 11 whom both start in F.E.2s....also worth a look.
I'd recommend Intrepid Flyers as a good starting DLC from the free game. It offers a 1916 career start with both the Strutter and the F.E.2 to choose from (loads better than the fighter equivalent for the time). No need for the over expensive Channels Map DLC...but after Interpid Flyers things get a little specialised. For recon. perhaps go with a Squadron like No.52 in R.E.8s (need Early Warbirds); for continued bombing its either D.H 4s (Ultimate Fighters) or Bristols (Battle of St. Michel).
A lot of you guys have been playing far longer than us newbies. It would be really informative to hear other folks career path ideas (inc. DLC choices)...............
Is this the single player stuff you are talking about completely possible to be played offline?
So no, you need an internet connection and have to login online rather than offline when you start the game. Just in order for the stupid pointless player rankings to work I believe. Should that be a non starter for you then you should take an look at PWCG, its an alternative career generator for RoF and you do not need to log in online for it to work.
