We really need some beacon, showing where they land.
Yeah the supply drops are due for a revision in terms of where they land. At the moment it is entirely random.
Additionally, the landing module you land in should have its own set of supplies soon too, so you should be able to live off the items in your landing module for a while.
I would love to see dynamic on-request supply drops. I'm pretty new to Manned & Scenario building in TkOM, so if I'm asking about something that is already possible, just slap me on the back of my head. But I think it would be awesome if an interface on the datapad could be used as a trigger for events.
An example of this could be:
Selecting from a list of possible supply drops and request delivery. Realistically, there would be a timed delay of game-time hours before the drop touches down. The list would be predetermined in the scenario editor and use an int/supply.cfg combination to set the number of each supply drop type brought along on the MTV.
Realistically in missions they always send the needed supplies before the crew, that way if anything goes wrong with the supplies, the mission can be scrubbed or altered.
But for extensive permanent colony building, it would be highly unlikely that all the supplies could be sent beforehand. As construction (over the months) progressed, MTVs would be launched to supply it on a set schedule. To prevent construction delays from ruining the timetable, staying one phase ahead would be a considered approach.
Crew notifies MTV1 of phase initiation, MTV1 sends down the delivery and returns to the ISS to pick up the next batch, while MTV2 is orbiting Mars fully loaded with the next phase and MTV3 is stand-by at ISS waiting for the go-ahead.
Rant aside, it could also be used in scenario storytelling. Like initiating a communication with earth, or sending scientific data.
Sounds like something a mod or addon would provide. *slap* :P
