Supply drops
Hi All,

I had a quick look to see if there was any other threads, but couldn't find any.

When and how do supply drops happen? Do I need to call them in or do they happen automatially. If so, how long after landing does one drop?

My brother and I are trying to play competitively on the Lyot Crater and we landed with nothing and we've been waiting for 5min and there are no supply drops?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I thought the same at first but you have to go out of your capsule and search for them. They contain things like seeds, water and so on

I have noticed 3 round large containers landing after 5-10 minutes you land. But they land too far. On one thread I have been told, to wait longer and new supplies should land closer, but while waiting I ate all my food and drank water, but no more supplies landed and I died :D And forgot the direction where my first supplies landed.
We really need some beacon, showing where they land.

Hey guys,

Yeah the supply drops are due for a revision in terms of where they land. At the moment it is entirely random.

Additionally, the landing module you land in should have its own set of supplies soon too, so you should be able to live off the items in your landing module for a while.

Oh that Dram, hehe... the best developer I`ve seen yet. Anyway, if landing module will have supplies, there should be some cupboard created for them. As for now, there is no place to put something into, except suit and helmet. BTW we, players do our landing alone, I mean one person in landing module, so throw away second seat and here`s a space for small safe/cupboard/box.

... I really hope we will have not just rice croquettes to eat on Mars...

Probably a silly question.. but do supply drops work for all senarios?
RainmakerLTU May 6, 2015 @ 3:51pm
Erm... for coop mode, I think they don`t drop, because you have printer, transport, and can build the rest. I think they drop for competitive mode (well I confirm that for sure). Not sure about other scenarios.

So most likely no drops for SP then.. ?

Try it, for now. After landing go outside and watch. In about 3-5 minutes, supplies should land somewhere. Or not. Visible landing fires.

Yes they do work, but would need to be spawned via a script. It is probably a good idea to make an event for this which can be triggered via a trigger. Adding to the todo list.

@Dram

I would love to see dynamic on-request supply drops. I'm pretty new to Manned & Scenario building in TkOM, so if I'm asking about something that is already possible, just slap me on the back of my head. But I think it would be awesome if an interface on the datapad could be used as a trigger for events.

An example of this could be:
Selecting from a list of possible supply drops and request delivery. Realistically, there would be a timed delay of game-time hours before the drop touches down. The list would be predetermined in the scenario editor and use an int/supply.cfg combination to set the number of each supply drop type brought along on the MTV.

Realistically in missions they always send the needed supplies before the crew, that way if anything goes wrong with the supplies, the mission can be scrubbed or altered.

But for extensive permanent colony building, it would be highly unlikely that all the supplies could be sent beforehand. As construction (over the months) progressed, MTVs would be launched to supply it on a set schedule. To prevent construction delays from ruining the timetable, staying one phase ahead would be a considered approach.

Crew notifies MTV1 of phase initiation, MTV1 sends down the delivery and returns to the ISS to pick up the next batch, while MTV2 is orbiting Mars fully loaded with the next phase and MTV3 is stand-by at ISS waiting for the go-ahead.

Rant aside, it could also be used in scenario storytelling. Like initiating a communication with earth, or sending scientific data.

Sounds like something a mod or addon would provide. *slap* :P
