As mentioned above, the whole planet is not done, that would be beyond the scope of possibility with the detail and true-to-life terrain we've done. I would love it though.
The largest map is in fact 8x8km, it is Cydonia Mensae and features the famous "face" on Mars.
And to "making my own maps" is it an ingame editor or is there a tool to make this? It would be great to make a scenario for the workshop out of the book. (And also my greatest recommendations for the book)
That said, locations can be added of course, and the game is extremely moddable. Everything you need is provided with the game. When you start it up there is a loader which has various tools you can use, and yes steam workshop is of course supported.
Is it a complex (like source hammer editor) or an easy level editor (like portal 2 ingame oder age of empires)?
Ich sehe gerade, dass Du deutsch bist. suche mal bei Youtube, nach Matzes Space Odyssey. Da gibts ein bischen Gameplay, und auch aktuelle Dinge zu TKOM. Wenn Du was spezielles wissen willst, schreibe mich hier einfach an.
Gruß
Matze
P.S: Sorry for writing in german, but it makes this a lot easier for me :)
<--lazy ;)
The editor is a bit more complex, similar to Hammer I guess, but a lot can be done with it.
Its a joke man, :) is hard work, i know that.
And i believe ElemethSigma has at the least started on making a map: http://steamcommunity.com/app/244030/discussions/10/620696933999630340/
But the 'short' answer is making a map for TKOM is complex, and time consuming, but not overly difficult if you have at least some idea of what you are doing.
