I am trying to grow potatoes.

Is human waste the fertilizer?

What does human waste get used for?

How do I get my potato plant to go from a plant to actually yielding potatoes?

There is a mod you can subscribe to that captures waste. Haven't tried it yet, as I'm not that far advanced in my mission to have that infrastructure in place. Hydroponics are ready, but need hab for a toilet.

for now waste has no use without mod, the waste mod allow you to dissociate human wastes in the reffinery in order to get water and other stuff, For the potatoes concern you'll need to attach a soil's barrel and a water barrel to you station, then put your seeds into the slots then right click on it and make it grow, then just have to wait and make sure none of your barrel is too low (i dont remember the exact numbers but the barrels has to contain a minimum quantity of soil / water if you want the seeds to grow) each successfully growed potatoe seed will give you 2 other seeds and 1 potatoe if i remember correctly (i hadnt harvest since some times :p)

Human waste has no use atm, but will soon be used for fertilizer. That is, you will mix mars soil + human waste to create fertilized soil. You will use that + water in the Hydroponics Station to grow plants. ATM they grow on their own with no resources needed. It will not be so.
