3D Printer sizes
I was curious if anyone knew off hand, if not ill find out tonight, whether or not you can build the 3d printers to what ever size you want. Such as using the midsize(small modular) printer parts to make a much larger printer capable of printing the larger parts. Are the printers stuck in their 2x2 sizes? Is the print size restriction based off the printer used or just the size of the print cavity? Again i will check this out tonight, just wondering for a quick answer

You can make the printer in any odd (rectangular) shape and it'll work just fine :steamhappy:! (And take my advice: you need a rather big one to print the comms array and the huge floor-panel-barrel.)

right now i just want to get to the upright barrel and not have to make another printer. waaaay too much oxygen byproduct trying to get just the resources to make the small parts

I built a printer large enough to build the MML, and tried to save the scenario (the goal was to gather the resources build the MML and get to another station to get a flash drive) and the game crashed and I lost all that work. Much sad, such disappoint.

Good thing it wasn't like September 2014, when you built any manned object and the game crashed lol.

Technically - I have no idea how I missed this post 3 days ago but - you CAN build the 3d modular printer in any (box) design you like. -that said- any size below 4x4x4 large panels (16x16x16 Small Panels) is pretty useless.

so i guess my 3x3x3 wont help me much. its taking me days just to mine up the resources just to finish that. im getting way too much spare oxygen to store and already dried up my first drill site. am i doing something wrong or is it just that ungodly difficult to get a reliable supply chain going

Is there a guide on what i need for certain prints? Currently interested in the normal Drill, drills bring all the ressources currently needed (and a lot of oxygen which at this point just fills my barrels...). Sooo... Whats the minimum size they could be built? 2x2x1 (1 is height) Certainly isnt enough. If i just need to make it one higher, that would be... relativly easy, glass and edges besides the top edges on the side are relativly cheap... Thats all tha twould be needed.

Certainly CAN build a few more things now that its 2x2x1 rather than 1x1x1. And yes, 1x1x1 is still rather neccessary in the beginning^^

The printing and its mechanics are very well designed, there's a feeling of progression to it.

Only thing missing, like you said, would be the minimum dimensions required to build the object.

i would really love that too, im trying to build one that allows you to build the large outpost rescource barrels to store maximum amount of resources but i have no idea just how big it has to be to print it,

i currently have it 3 high, 5 long and 3 wide. any ideas what im doing wrong?

i also seem to have am issue with the modular printer where i seem to still get low resource message comming up for things like the forklift, power cable spooland so on even when i have all the indicated resources. its annoying

*Torches the modular printer*

I'm going to necro this post as this doesn't seem to apply to the Feb 9 release, the printer is not saying "complete" for an otherwise complete build. Is there a max size a small-panel printer can be?

No limit on size. When complete it should look something like these:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=795834751

Of course, you needn't build it that big.

Note that it will also work with 2 open sides, so long as they are on opposite sides. Also, I think it will give you the incomplete message if there is no power. If you can't figure it out, try posting some screenshots so we can look for the problem.

Wow never in a million years did I ever think my modular printer guide and it's various screenshots would be this popular :D

Edit: We figured it out...
Picked up and replaced a bunch of random parts and it suddenly started working. Yep, definitely a finished game.. lol

All the printer parts are the same the only difference is if your using small or large pieces.
