Anyone Remember How to get Sir Caradoc?
So I played Old Faith and made a beeline for Powys, did the "Merlin Returns" quest and expected to get the follow-up quest "The Pact" and then the "Sir Caradoc Quest" - but I only got as far as completing Merlin Returns...then nothing.

I tried finishing The Scourge but that requires me to go to war with Wales (since I don't know how to ask a kings permission to travel across land, and the Steam manual is broke), and that led nowhere.

Then someone said you need to take both Powys and London (Strongholds) to access the Chapter 2 quests, which I assume is leads to the Pact. But you can't retain London because the Scourge starts.

I tried maxing Old Faith through cheats, and there's a cheat for accessing land, but I cant get the king of wales' name to work/identify - so I could get to the churches without triggering war with Wales and Norfolk.

I might restart and get both strongholds (London and Powys) then cheat-max old faith, or go up 1 at a time - as the random quests sometimes don't fire and you can go 50+ hours without getting them - and try that.

But some advice would be appreciated.

I don't remember any difficulty getting Caradoc with old faith. I can't really remember but i think he is available with a challenge quest, maybe triggered by reaching enough old faith points or enough turns, or after getting the alliance with Wales.

And so, about alliances, you can't ask other kings anything in the original campaign, you do it with the main quests, here by continuing Merlin's proposal with Wales.
About the stongholds, you can't have both London and Viroconium as strongholds, one will instantly become a normal village when you take your 1st stronghold, and then the scourge will happen. So there is no need to take both.

Thanks; I remember getting Caradoc before having to align with the Seelie, I think this game was the best of the bunch, but it's got some weird design decisions...

As Old Faith don't go to war with Wales until you've taken out Norfolk and the Christians. The quest where you can get Caradoc is just before you go to war with Wales, just use a good fighting warrior and you should be able to get him. He's kind of a pain in the ass, you have to give him fiefdoms and he's not a great ruler. He's tough to keep happy. I like to get the Green Knight instead.

That's interesting - I've started again anyway (decided to take London as it's Christian). So they designed it in such a way that to visit each church/abbey to solve the scourge, you have to declare war on Wales and Norfolk - for entering their territory, so you should really have a high enough faith rating before fighting against your 'enemy' faith, to ally with your shared one after. Otherwise it means war.
Right, I'll try that. Thanks.

I always solve the scourge quest after the old faith/christian quests are completely done and i control both of their lands.

Right I've cracked it for anyone else that wants to know: after 4 attempts and more hours than it should have taken, I got London/Logres first, then Powys declares war, then I did the Vision quest, and the Merlin returns/Caradoc/alliance with Wales pops up as soon as you get the Powys stronghold.

This unlocks the upper 2/3'rds of quests that had been locked in chapter 2 from my previous playthroughs, and as you get the Merlin Returns quest it should specifically say he will get the alliance with Wales.

No console codes, about 5/20 rightfull, and just before Aura of the Sidhe old faith. Chapter one finished, and only The Vision complete in chapter 2.

This is a great game, it really is, and I've always been into the King Arthur mythology, and as much as I appreciate Neocore for making this game, and putting the effort in, It's taken me 1 month and multiple playthorughs to get to this point - and I could happily kick someone in the nuts about now.

Thanks for replies.

I found that the learning curve on this game could be brutal. But once you've figured out the right sequencing on the quests and how to use the magic and heroes it gets pretty simple. I've always loved this game.
