Meta-Hacking

Any clues on this achievement?

Either it's not implemented yet or devs want people to actually hack their game. Found this in game files, "--" means it's commented out and won't work, plus game won't allow you to unlock achievements if you change anything in it's code.

Ok, so I've managed to unlock this achievement by messing with game files, but I'm not sure if it's a legit way or just cheating. Hopefully one of the developers can clarify this situation.

All things considered, it's probably the correct way. I mean, it's a game in which stealth, and hacking happens. And you in turn, screw with the game to unlock it. Thus, meta.

EDIT: Hmm...looks like I'm stuck. Tried unzipping, changing it so it's no longer commented, rezipped, and nothing. What did you end up doing to unlock it, Brotigan? Any further hints? :)

Let's wait a little and see what developers have to say about it, maybe it's just an unfinished achievement and they'll update it in the next patch.

Hmm, fair enough. Although like Richard said, if you've managed to unlock it (without using Steam Achievement Manager or some similar achievement unlocker program), you probably did the right thing. So congrats on that! :)

Game just updated and look what we have here:

Guess you really need to hack the game, so here's my method.

Backup scripts.zip and hashes.dat files. Unpack scripts.zip, open \client\states\state-main-menu.lua, delete "--" at the beginning of "--KLEIAchievements:achieve( "META_HACKING" )" line, save your changes and repack files back into scripts.zip. Now open hashes.dat in any text editor, delete it's content and save (it must be 0 bytes). That's it, launch the game and achievement should unlock.

Also love that this sort of achievement exists - perfect for a game like this. The people at Klei are geniuses.
