Best way to counter mass warlock
Last night i was playing and the ai had large clumps of warlocks which kept turning my units into bugs and also meteor storm to lay waste to my clumped up units. At one point i saw about 10 meteor storms... Not only that they had alot of aa to take out my dragon. How does one counter mass warlocks?

Fighters, maybe?

Are warlocks considered air units? I mean they're in blimps, but when I build stationary anti air they never fire.

Warlock are light amphibious units -- So anything that is strong against light units will do the trick.

I usually send hunters to take them out, but if my Dragon knows crippling roar or eye of patriarch, those two abilities can wipe them out easy.

I tried hunters but they got killed very quickly by meteors. I am talking about 40 warlocks bunched up, so they just drop meteors every time you go in for them. They are not air units so aa doesn't work. Will also try the dragon abilitys.

Warlocks and Shamans are not considered air units. They're considered amphibious or ground.

I'm not sure how to counter mass Warlocks yet. earlier I suggested Hunters with the Immunity spell cast on them, but that definitely does require micro and attention - the Hunters will take a bunch of damage if you just let them sit and attack the warlocks instead of moving them.

Otherwise all I have at the moment is that the Dragon might be the best way - swoop in with an ability that hits an area, maybe Dread Roar or Pillar of Flame. They die easily, but that doesn't help so much.

... Hmmm... what about Bomber Balloons with Revelation that are cloaked with the Zeppelin's Fog of War and shielded with Immunity?

Bomber Balloons are easily taken out by warlocks and grenadiers. The Zeppelin thing might work with fog of war and mustard gas.

I have to question the design behind two units that appear to be low flying blimps, but are in fact ground units and unaffected by anti air. :hurt:

Nukes from ... sea. It is the only way to be sure. Simple artilery fire will decimiate warlocks as well long before they get in range for their meteor rains.

Gas attacks work fine too, in essence every weapon of mass destruction is fine.

Hunters with Immunity cast on them is your best counter short of "final solution". Just keep them on the move. If you don't have Immunity and warlocks are polymorth-happy you can outproduce them with rushing trooper mob. Many will die to meteors but it works.

Mustard gas, shielded bombers, shielded devastators, shielded hunters, juggernauts with 1 ironclad to shoot projectiles down, eye of patriarch, aoestun + fireballs...

So... is this whole game is just being hit by identical waves of spammed units and spamming your best unit in response over and over? no strategy or anything other than hoping you can spam a larger number than the computer? Im considering buying but every day i see a new thread about some ridiculous waves of a single unit being spammed and someone asking how they can possibly counter it.

it's called critical mass, same principle applies to most other RTS's (SC2, sup com 1, 1.5, 2 etc.)

However, i find certain units indeed unbalanced, troopers first and foremost. with all three upgrades they just walk into your base, capture it all before you can kill them and then suicide into whatever groundforces you have, whiping them out rather quickly... all for the meager cost of 3 recruits.... and i though marines were bad in SC2 xD

Edit: this also works against mass locks, or pretty much anything for flying or floating :P

Im aware its a valid tactic, id just hoped the AI wasnt just programmed to just do that every time. Seems rather dull. Might still buy it, is the rest of the game decent?
Killertje 15/ago./2013 às 8:15
Massing only works on normal or lower difficulties. And against bad players.
On hard, in act 2 and 3 gl with that "strategy".

The AI isn't programmed to do that every time. The AI in fact is quite smart and reactive. It will build counters to the units you have. That can go both ways, though - you can see what the enemy has and try to take preventative action. If you notice your enemy building a lot of Warlocks, the simplest counter is to swoop in with your Jetpack and take out the Warlocks. Yes, you might die, but 20 Recruits is cheaper than what it'll likely cost if you get hit by a "Death from Above", and if you kill more than 3 Warlocks, you come out ahead even if you die.

Troopers Spoils of War probably needs a change, it makes building Turrets not only pointless, but actively dangerous. If they couldn't capture Turrets, that alone would probably help a lot.

Alright, thank you for the answers. Long as its not all they do i dont mind.
