*SPOILERS* Is it possible to NOT go full demon?
I made all moral decisions throughout the whole game, and only listened to the Demon once. (Go to the Worldheart rather than join the Elven army.) But I still ended the game lookin' all crusty and on-fire.
Is this just how the game goes? (Totally fine with it, if it is.)
Or is it really, really unforgiving when it comes to choice-making?

It's totally possible not to go full demon. Totally. You just have to make the choice to NOT listen to the demon inside.

If this is indeed the case, then that is quite frankly idiotic.
The choice to either "Go to the Worldheart" or "Join the Elven Army" is barely even a choice. Either, go with the Elves and die trying to pointlessly fight an unkillable army. (You even have someone on your party who has seen first hand that the enemy literally can't be stopped.(Randval)) Or, go to the Worldheart and cut off the power to ALL of the enemy armies simultaniously. (Which just happens to be what the Demon wants.)

Why on earth does this result in full demon takeover? :fmad:

If you start to turn into a demon, you've already made the choice that will turn you into a demon. It will happen gradually, but it will happen. The only way to stop it is to resist starting in the first place. If I remember right; I think the choice occurs around a cave, fairly early on in the game.

I did take the non-demonic route and got the special potion for the cave, thus avoiding letting the Demon "Evolve" Vulcan.
But as soon as I went to Caraldthas the transformation rather suddenly just happened, seemingly without any provokation. So I just assumed the demon thing always happened no matter what you did.

There are 4 or so choices in the game that increase your possession level. It doesn't happen gradually, key dialog choices just increase possession by 20-40%. There's no real impact on gameplay except a mini-boss and a few lines of dialog. Otherwise, there's an ending that is only available to those completely human.

The story really isn't this game's strong suit nor the characters.

I actually enjoyed the game's Story and Characters quite a bit.
I'm just upset that one single choice in the Demon's favour (Which was also the obvious, far more strategically sound choice) caused what appeared to be a massive leap in the demonic takeover, for no good reason.
It's not the end of the world, obviously. But I'm the kind of player who likes to do the 100% good-guy run in RPGs like this.

Well, i'll be the devil's (or demon's) advocate and say this is realistic in the context of the game story where you have a demon inside you that struggles to take posession.
You wont turn full demon with only one decision, but yes one decision can make your character look pretty demonic in the end because it evolves, once you give one inch to the demon, you cant stop, the things evolve from there.
