I've used this application in the past in order to play games with an old controller that wasn't supported.
+ Disable second HID controller at device manager. (Let Enable only one)
It's abysmal that they didn't think to actually update the game to be more like the PS4 and XBOX One ports of the game, and instead give us the PS3, XBOX 360, port of the game.
Yup. This is why Focus is known as a b-studio. Because they can't even fix simple issues and their support is useless.
Since Spiders games used to support whatever Controller you plugged in, it's more likely that the engine version those games were made of are incompatible with current Steam Mappers / Wrappers.
Older Unity games have the same issue with DInput (PS3/PS4) controllers when using Steams build in mapper. While they recognize native XInput devices (X360/XONE) without issues, they can't detect DInput devices which are emulated to work like XInput devices by Steam.
Doesn't work on Windows 10 1809 with Official Xbox One Wireless.
In the end I had to get a refund which was a shame because I really wanted this game in my library.

This fixed it for me.
don't help. Must unplug (and plug back ) the mouse usb for controllers to work
