UPlay?
Does this game require Ubisoft's trashy UPlay DRM, or is this 100% Steam?

"trashy uPlay DRM" Uses Steam DRM

Like most Free 2 Play games, it utilizes its own launcher. That launcher requires you to log in with a uPlay account, but doesn't install a uPlay client on your system or anything like that. You just need an account (which you probably already have).

And you would be wrong, if it uses UPlay, then it installs the client. Where do you get your information?

I'm an Athena Council member for the game, a developer selected volunteer asked to help spread correct information and the like about the game.

I can confirm that the uPlay client isn't installed with Phantoms... All the uPlay connectivity that is required is built into their own launcher.

It's a Free 2 Play game that's 100% online though, so there's obviously an "always on" DRM in place... Because there's nothing to do in the game without an active Internet connection anyway...

If a games says Ubisoft anywhere on it's page it will use Uplay. At least its not as bad as Origin.

While I can't stand either of them, I actually rank Origin higher than uPlay simply because it actually works (at least for me). Last uPlay game I picked up was AC: Liberation HD and it took Ubisoft two ******* weeks just to get the preorder DLC to work.

lol classic. Complains about DRM, uses Steam. CLASSIC

It took Origin / EA / DICE like 6 months to get me my Veteran Battlepack to show up in Battlelog / In-Game even though it showed in my Game Details in Origin... They all have their downfalls, I don't think any are better than any others.

Steam works and while Valve has earned trust over the years, Ubisoft has done nothing but try to screw over their customers every chance they get.

Well, at least the Steam DRM comes with a lot of useful features bundled with it, as well as actually good support and a trusted company behind it.
Lozzle Apr 10, 2014 @ 2:51pm
Is there something to not trust with Ubisoft? Have they wronged you in some way? If a game on Steam didn't work and there was no fix, would you wave off Valve for life and swear to never use Steam again? People are petty, wishy washy hypocrites when it comes to video games and even moreso when it comes to video game companies.

Ubisoft is a publicly traded company whose loyalty stands only with their shareholders. If they believe it will bring a profit to simply delete your game account, they will do so.

Ubisoft as a company has been known to:

1- Call their consumers thieves

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/08/22/ubisoft_says_over_90_per_cent_of_pc_gamers_are_pirates/

2- Lie through their teeth

http://www.techhive.com/article/238528/ubisoft_lies_about_drm_on_pc_port_of_from_dust.html

(Remember when they said PC piracy rates were about 95% to justify their always online DRM? See their lie below:)
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/09/05/ubisoft-drm-piracy-interview/

3- Engage in anti-consumer practises through rampart bullshotting to drive sales:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/jimquisition/8876-Watch-Dogs-A-Vertical-Slice-Of-Steaming-Bullshots

4- Bundle their software with rootkits:

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/07/30/ubisoft-respond-to-uplay-security-drama/

Not to mention having pretty bad support.

So no, I don't trust Ubisoft's management whatsoever. As for Valve? GabeN is the sole owner of it, so he answers to no one. He is also a gamer, a dev and understands the gaming business like no other. He also treats his consumers with respect instead of little cashcows 9since he knows consumer loyalty is a lot more important in the long run than just inflating your bottom line for the next quarterly report [Valve doesn't even need a quarterly report]). Yeah, I will take Steam (and Valve) over Uplay any time of the day.

uPlay is awful. Deal breaker if it's true.
