Wish the combat was optional.
The new map is really well done.

The original game was fun as it was relaxing and chill. I would have preferred a more exploration variation as opposed to combat. Unfortunately I have lots of combat games and I don't really want another one. Perhaps make combat optional via a check box in the settings menu.

Agree totally

You can also pick up the previous game, Airborne Kingdom, which plays very similarly but lacks all combat.

I do have the previous game that I really liked.

I am more of an explorer type gamer than a combat gamer and there are very few games where it is fun and you can just chill out. Just sad to see one that I liked end up going the combat route.

I guess they think they will get a larger player base, which is probably correct. They could always go the player mod route which would allow me to solve the problem, but I doubt that is likely.

Thanks for the feedback! We plan on adding difficulty settings during Early Access development. I'm not sure about removing combat altogether because so many quests are tied with combat but if it's something many players would like we might consider a story mode where combat is not the primary focus.

Mabey if combat was more approchable it wouldnt be a problem. Perhaps OP is plauged by pirates?

Personally i like the combat and wish it was more in depth.

I feel like if i stand in one place collecting resources, pirates come by more often. If im constantly moving then the pirates dont hit me every 3-5 minutes.

Is there any truth to this? Is how pirates work related to the city being stationary in one location for long?

Fredtuna, thanks for the reply. The story mode option sounds nice. Unfortunately I am not sure what percentage of the market share the non-combat gamers are, but a lot of people did purchase the previous game and it didn't have any combat. It makes no sense to put it in if you can't make a profit on it.

However you already have the map and you already have the skill tree. All you would need to do is to make a mystery story finding clues along the way to direct you to some far away place where you find the golden fleece or something. If the place was not that accessible it would require certain upgrades only found from various cities across the map.

Ideally I think more options are better as you are then able to attract a wider audience.

The combat is easy peasy though. It's actually quite enjoyable and a nice addition to the management of your empire. I love it and I am usually one for a nice chill citybuilder too.

How many towers do you build?

I've had two towers and enemy planes inflicted quite big damage to my city. Not super big, but unpleasant.

I only have 3 defensive towers. Enemies will fly in, do damage, get some buildings to 60% or so and I repair them because they're basically dead after one pass. I can get them repaired before a 2nd pass if they survived the first one. I also have those special towers that provide a buff in an area around them which can provide defense for all buildings in it or buff attack of towers and canons by 10%. Just make sure you have people spare to repair buildings and trees/wood available for them.

The original game would be what you are looking for then. Combat is a welcome addition to the winning formula in the previous game, I would strongly recommend picking up kingdoms if you want a non-combat experience.

I really enjoy the combat in this game. From the layout of the canons being important because they can literally hit your own buildings lol to the sort of tower defense style of it. It's simple to get to grips with too.

But I do agree it should be optional. There are people who just prefer a chill experience and they shouldn't feel alienated from it. This is what I reckon all citybuilders with combat should always have, the option to go pacifist mode.

It really should be optional. For me the combat is more of an annoying event I have to endure.

The problem with entirely removing combat is many quests are related to combat. We could have a mode where there are no random waves and pirates basically do no damage and you can destroy them very easily but it would still have the token enemies just for quest progression. For those that still want a challenge but no combat, then that will be an entirely new balance since combat adds a lot of city building and resource needs that would otherwise not exist.
This is still possible but adding more permutations takes time to tune and test given the very small dev team for this game.
We will look into all this during Early Access development. :)

Perhaps ease players into combat a little more? Like, figure out a way to make it mandatory for the player to build at least one defense tower then have only 1 pirate craft come at them for the first few tries. Let them get used to it slowly then increase the number of craft per wave until it gets to the normal number it is now.

Yes that will definitely be possible in easier difficulty settings
