Strange Game Balance
So I was following the quests in the desert area and one of them asks me to steal some treasure. The quest is related to a character named the Redhawk Captain. Anyway, I had no problem attacking the site and stealing the treasure. However, as soon as the treasure was stolen it started an event where an extremely fast enemy ship appeared. The ship had auto-aim, was able to chase me forever, and more importantly, it was able to spawn an infinite number of max-speed airplanes, in huge waves of 10-20 at a time, and these airplanes kamakaze into my city until I exploded and got a game over.

Yeah, that boss fight needs some work to both communicate what is happening as well as make the player understand what they're supposed to do better. We will work on it more. Thanks for the feedback!
I noticed the kamikaze planes frequently one-shot most buildings I have which definitely feels a bit overtuned as there's not really a defense against them.
I don't mind stuff getting blown up in tough fights but it feels bad when it feels cheap and unavoidable.
Also, huge request for the 'destroyed building' notification to not disappear until I dismiss it and to have the option of rebuilding where the previous building was.

I think i had about 4 towers, 1 cannon, 2-3 attack hangars for that fight and 2-3 workshops to cover the whole base. The boss had afair 500hp, one not upgraded attack hangar does 3x33 dmg which means with 3 hangars you can destroy the boss in 2 shots quite fast.

Important: after every hit on your base pause the game and refill combat buiilding workers because most likely you lost 1-2.

To counter them you have 2 options:
1) build defense towers on the edge of your base for increased attack range, for example 2 in the front, 2 left, 2 right and 2-3 in the back area and be sure that you're base faces them directly from where they attack
2) 1 central zapper cannon, this thing destroys all mini aircrafts instantly but has a high cooldown, so it's good for the first / bigger wave, i used it only a short time and removed it for more attack hangars
3) buff your towers with minaret, you can slot 25% attack speed / 20% attack dmg

In general try to get upgrades from the starting area, desert and volcanic area first before attempting the bosses to make it easier.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try adding more attack hangars. I'm not sure how to deal with the huge waves of kamakaze airplanes.

In most games, when you have something the player needs to understand, the mechanic is introduced in a "safe" situation. Furthermore, the player is trapped in the "safe" situation until the mechanic is fully understood. Preferably this is done without a UI/NPC tutorial, using the gameplay alone.
