Hi, yeah, I have the same issue. Got it through the wondering market and can't use it at up to purchase any skins on any gods.

The thing is The Classic Token is only for skins that has Classic signed, like Legendary or Epic how Rare it is, so Classic skins means when a Skin from Smite 1 is transfer into Smite 2 that wasnt Cross Gem like. For Example u can buy with that token the Gentleman Fenrir skin, but soon there will be come more Classic skins. I Hope i could help u

So here is the thing, there seem to be some skins that are labeled "classic" but are also exclusive, which means you can't buy them but only get from some events, like that one Zeus skin.
