SMITE 2 does not use any sort of Hi-Rez account, it just uses platform accounts, such as Steam. Of note, account level and god masteries do not carry over from SMITE 1 to SMITE 2, but if you played a lot of SMITE 1, you can get a slew of rewards through the Divine Legacy system.

If you complete your Divine Legacy linking in SMITE 1, you will get Legacy Gems equivalent to the number of Gems spent in SMITE 1, any Divine Legacy skins earned in SMITE 1, any Cross-Gen skins purchased in SMITE 1, badges and mastery tags to commemorate all of your achievements in SMITE 1.

Legacy Gems can be used to buy "Classic" skins without any need to buy/earn the new Diamonds currency in SMITE 2. As others have pointed out, for non-Classic skins, you will still get 50% off with Legacy Gems.

Yes, you can go into Settings in SMITE 2 and under the UI tab, you can turn off the "Use Legacy Name" option to return to using your Steam name.
