Yeah, EU playerbase was always much smaller even in Smite 1, it is even more visible in Smite 2, especialy on higher ranks.
I don't play that actively anymore, but in diamond I sometimes requeued 1-2 times at 8min, so not to get matched up weird again.
It was about 2 weeks ago, but I assume it did not change.
I guess You could sum it up to waiting 16-24 minutes at unpopulated EU hours at diamond ranked.
I could probably find the queue in about 9 minutes at these weird hours ofc, as the range grows at 8+ min, but then I would get matched up with gold and silver players.. and matchmaking being what it is/was, most people that play a lot are ranked higher than they should, so often times You get matched up with a weird mix of people who are visibly veterans of MOBAS and seemingly newcomers or console players with KD of 0.4, who somehow still keep to 51% winrate and climb, turning a match into a mess, whether You win or lose.
It is a bit better if You bring a decent buddy with You, but not that many people want to play Smite, so thats tough, haha.
I do hope, Smite 2 gets more players after they figure up a sweet spot for item, god, map, relic and matchmaking balance.
There is not much point in playing ranked, as there are no rewards for it and normals are even weirder, so in my case only good for testing new gods/builds.
No idea how many are there on Epic, PS or Xbox, but in order for it to be better, it has to have like stable 20k Steam players for sure.
It is tough to run a competitive game with less numbers.
This is why I suggested for Smite1 to be ShutDown right now, so the players tests new version and more players to be available.
p.s. I feel your pain about matchmaking, it is the worst and I don't understand why it is hard to be adjusted in 2025.
