whats the issue with adding text chat?

voice chat buggy af and doesn't work half the time. can't give out a discord invite without text chat, ♥♥♥♥ sucks.

The issue is just the fact that people are toxic. I'd bet it's the #1 reason for banned accounts, and probably negative community experiences the #1 reason people get turned away and stop playing

i feel a lot of people are turning away because of a lack of text / functional voice chat. it was rough when I first started because I had been away for smite for so long I didn't remember what I was doing exactly and I had voice issues for the first week so I could only communicate in catch phrases. it was dumb.

I would imagine most players immediately disabled voice chat anyway

i remember omega striker had ppl toxic and they did not have any means of communication, so ppl spammed emoji's. They block that. so people just resorted to actual trolling

Not having the chat does not make sense to me.
I do think having more of voice communication is advantageous and overall makes the game more interesting, but there are people who can't use the voice chat at certain times (some players do play at night after a 12-hour shift and don't want to wake up others) and we have deaf players as well.

As for the toxicity, it does not stop, it's just moved to the voice chat lol.

I can't figure out what's the technical frontier behind not returning the text chat but it definitely is not over the toxic behavior.
