Same with Chess in High School, virtually every site, as well ass sanctioned tournaments, rated you on games, it was just expected. unrated was available online, but rated was typically preferred.
I guess I just grew up in environments were ranking was the norm, and I expected to play against similarly skilled players. Shockingly, I never really got ♥♥♥♥ for a low rating either. I spent my first 2 years of Chess sub 1000. If anything, it made folks actively want to help me.
It was a different time/place I guess. Now it's just blame teammates and "carry" out of elo Hell. I played competitive in Marvel Rivals because quick match doesn't swap sides. Man are people miserable.
