SMITE 2

Not god enough?
Smite has always marketed itself as a game where gods, mythological figures, and legendary beings battle it out. However, with the release of Smite 2, it seems the developers are taking even greater creative liberties, adding figures like Aladdin and Mordred—who are neither gods nor even mythological deities. Given this increasing flexibility in the roster, I have a question:

If Smite includes figures from actively worshipped religions, such as Shiva, Ganesha, and Kukulkan, why do we never see Jesus, Buddha, or Satan/Lucifer?

Let’s break this down:

Consistency & Fairness – If Smite is willing to include Hindu deities (who are still widely revered by over a billion people today), why is Christianity or Islam off-limits? Figures like Jesus, Satan, or even archangels like Michael and Gabriel are just as mythologically significant as Hades, Odin, or Cthulhu.

Creative Liberties Already Exist – The argument that “Smite only includes mythological gods” has been debunked with Smite 2 adding figures like Aladdin and Mordred. If literary or historical figures are now fair game, then surely legendary religious icons should be too.

Double Standards in Sensitivity – If the concern is that depicting Jesus, Muhammad, or Buddha would offend people, then why is it acceptable to include Hindu, Celtic, and Mayan deities, which also have modern-day followers? Why is one religion’s icon considered “too sensitive” while another’s is seen as fair game for entertainment?

Demonic & Christian Lore Already Exists in Smite – Smite already features gods and beings that align with Christian mythology (e.g., Hades, Hel, and even demonic figures like Surtr). If devils, underworld rulers, and gods of death can be playable, why not Satan/Lucifer, who fits the same archetype?

Historical & Cultural Impact – Figures like Jesus and Lucifer have shaped global mythology just as much as Zeus, Odin, or Anubis. Their stories are deeply ingrained in world history and literature, making them relevant for a mythological battle game.

Now, to be clear, I understand why developers might avoid certain religious figures to prevent backlash. But at this point, Smite has already crossed that line with multiple faiths. So I ask: Where is the consistency? Either all major religious figures should be treated equally, or none should be included at all.

What do you think? Should Smite 2 explore these figures, or do the developers have a selective approach when choosing which religious icons are fair game?

Like... did you even think before you typed?
What would someone who offers to Ganesh daily think? He is a myth?

The sacrament of bread and wine is also an offering to a deity.
they avoid using certain gods and pantheons, mytho's due to the real threat of the zealots and figures of those religions. Lawsuits can easily happen.

this happen when they added kali back in the day and ever since its very hard to add hindu gods
they did not get away with adding hindu god and it greatly limited their skin/creativity with said gods

... what real threat for example?
[13yo kid]: ''I'm gonna find you bc u beli3ve in JeSuS''?

To be sure when speaking of Zealots, no one is talking about Allah. That is the only thing that comes to mind.

Makes sense; choose only things with purple skin cos that's wacky and fun.

On a good day I'd feel like playing Jesus. on a bad day I would feel like playing Satan. What is not to get?
Aladin's Genie beard is so majestic, I grew into a man.
I don't think you understand how crazy the christian/catholic church is. They would absolutely sue and boycott the game and shut it down if Jesus or any other figure from the bible was put in the game. Titan Forge is a small gaming studio, they don't want that kind of heat.

This is the reason.

They already had some trouble with the Hindu deities.

Christianity, Buddhism, and Islam are completely off limits as far as I know. And this has nothing to do with "equal quality of representation" in their video game. This has 100% to do with the law suits, criticism and backlash they would get if they chose to include any of these in their online battle videogame.

Case closed. Time to move on. (We're lucky that we have any of the Hindu deities!)

Its obvious you're ignorant to such things you know little about. Yes thats what I took from that box of nonsense your suggesting. I would be saying Hinduism, and allah are both fake. Many gods such as the ones your playing are. These are little g gods. They are inferior to the 1 true GOD. but what your suggesting is to put in Jesus and Satan in this game.. for what reason? So you can mock? So you can make your jokes? People already get banned for sensitive language lol you want to create more moderation
you are why people can't stand Christians lmfao
the same threads, 10 years later. It isn't gonna happen. Make you're own game. Or go play Black & White :D

New God; Mickey Mouse, June 2025
this topic has been beaten to death.

Honestly, apply some common sense. The devs won't add anything from active and populous religions, and they wont add anything protected by copyright or trademark either, so no Mickey Mouse or Batman, that should be fricking obvious.

Smite 1 had some crossover events that added many new skins over the years, you can see them here https://smite.fandom.com/wiki/Crossovers . Smite 1 also has Cthulhu so the devs in principle aren't against the idea of adding new characters from beyond gods and "pantheons", but there are obvious limitations on which is legally possible.
