But I don't think people want each skin redesigned and updated for the new engine, that's an insane amount of work. I think simply porting the skins over, fitting them to any new meshes and animations they add for a god and then making sure players who already own them get them when added is what everyone wants. But the real answer is that if they do that, they won't be able to double dip on people's wallets for those same skins they already own. Hi-Rez isn't shy about re-selling old skins with a new coat of paint; quite literally with the introduction of the colorforge skins. But that's what they really mean. Would it still take a lot of time to port over all those skins? Yes, but nearly 250 years??
They brainstormed, conceptualized, created, rigged, and baked all those skins into the game in under 12 years. The idea that it would somehow take them 20x that amount to literally copy the models and rig them (No need to brainstorm or conceptualize or re-create) is absolute absurdity.
not a lie. go read what they said. use your brain.
they stated "cross gen skins" will only carry to smite 2.
I know that porting everything and keeping all versions of a game is not all that realistic, but whenever multiple versions of a live service game out, it feels as though the devs flip a coin to see which audience gets the bird flipped at them.
By the way, why are they making a Smite 2?
why vote though? its a business ... hirez is a company with employees who need to be paid and other costs, including investors wanting some dough too.
even if they only needed 1 person year to port all the T4 and T5 skins, who is gonna pay for that. are you paying for that?
are you getting paid monthly or does your boss say "hey i paid you the first month, i expect you work the rest of the year for free".
what pure stupidity and entitlement to expect people to work for free so that some sorry individuals which are no lifers can get some colored pixels. just pathetic.
Entitlement is fine within reasonable parameters, and is NOT from only one side.
Players who have funded the devs' well being for about a decade should feel entitled to a smooth transfer with generous incentives.
Workers who have entertained players for about a decade should feel entitled to charitable standards for what gets ported.
The incentive for the publisher is player morale and confidence.
If someone spends hundreds of dollars on items, then those items are removed or made obsolete, it discourages future spending.
It may be unrealistic to ask that every single item is ported over, but ensuring that key skins and fan favourites are is essential.
The legacy gem system being 50% is on the right track, but the gems should only be given once a skin is planned to be 'retired', otherwise feels more like forcing fans to double-dip.
the legacy gem system sounds generous, what are talking about? they literally give you a sh*t ton of free gems, basically everything that you ever spend and you can use it. of course up to 50% because people need food too you know. and yes that part is to entice you to pay for skins / shiny stuff ... but its better than nothing.
honestly when i heard today from my brother that smite is getting a sequel i was delighted because i was hoping for years they would do it, haven't played smite for over 2 years, not seriously for over 3 or 4 years now. still having almost 4500 hours in it because i no lifed it earlier in life.
i spend over 600 EUR on the game with skins ... thing is ... i got my joy out of the game and out of these skins. i didn't expect them to give me free stuff on their next project, but they did which is absolutely fine for me.
i fail to see where its double dipping, you paid for a sparkly pixel on your character X in smite, you got it and you played a sh*t ton out of it. there is no double dipping done, you got the skin in smite 1 ... you can continue play it in smite 1, which in itself is nice even after smite 2 launches. again ... the game is a free 2 play game... it is a LIVE SERVICE game ... its NOT a single player / standalone game ... there is nothing guaranteeing that you won't lose a character in 1, 2, 5 or X years if they shut down the servers. if you think that buying those skins is a permanent "investment" then you are plain stup*d .. sorry to say!
skins in smite are like confetti at a birthday party ... you don't expect them to last for several years.
