Add chat to game
As title suggests, add chat to the game. Connection with the team and enemy players is half the fun of any game, this one especially.

Honestly, I'm fine without it. Part of me believe you just want it to flame your teammates.

That's exactly why they want it, to abuse everyone else.

So tired of this ridiculous line of thinking. There are so many people that just don't know what they are doing, at all, in Smite 2 right now. Most of us just want another avenue to try to help explain what they should be doing since the vast majority either don't have voice enabled or just don't listen to it (the voice system is terrible, doesn't work half the time and distorts microphones so badly that many people aren't even understandable when it is working). I can't tell you how many games I have had with people playing the wrong role, 2 manning solo lane, afk'ing in their lane 45 minutes straight etc etc. I always try to tell them where they should be/what they should be doing in voice but very rarely does it do any good. Just add the option to disable text chat if people don't want to see it; but there is no legitimate reason to not have text chat for those of us that will make proper use of it, period.

As a new player myself, I don't know what I'm doing half the time. How am I supposed to learn if I both cannot talk to my team and cannot buy items because if you do try to do so, it turns off auto buy.

Would be ideal if you could enable/disable auto-buy within the game as you desire and also have recommended items for your character. Like most games, eventually you become familiar with all items and their niche uses, but that takes a bit, just the same as all characters and abilities to watch out for.

So, I get where you're coming from more than I had before. The problem I have with that isn't that I don't want you to learn; I believe you deserve to learn just like everyone else, and I hope you find what you need to head forward in the game.

But having chat in the game will be a double edged sword. There will be a helpful bunch, of course, but there will be just as many if not more flamers on the other end of the blade. It comes with being a MOBA.

Honestly, as long as I have the option to turn it off myself, I'm good with whatever. Personally, text chat is a big turn off for me in SMITE 1.

I personally think it would add more than it would takeaway if the default is it is off unless toggled on. I would assume many would turn it on and enjoy it being on. For players like myself, it would also add more of a teamwork feel over the auto-speak commands that are just terrible.

hell yea, game needs chatbox. if anycase it should be optional and toggled-off if someone doesnt want to see it

Text chat will be in the game, it was stated update before this one that they are working on it. Read the "news" section and it will tell you there if you "need a source"

I see no mention of this anywhere. Was it highlighted in a video elsewhere? Seems to be more statements made on them pulling it for Smite 2 than any reference to it being present in the future development. They do have voice chat right now, but that's just terrible.

Nvm I didn't read it in the news section, it was most likely off the datamine page then. Anyways text chat will be implemented as it was already in 1 and they have no reason not to put it back in

Hoping you are right, but I've heard too many threads on the topic stating they were removing it for a reason. It would have been inherently part of the game engine so not having it seems intentional right now.

That is just he say/she say stuff, their only reason to not add text chat would be because of "toxicity" but that would be it. The pros out way the cons
TheAutisticPope Nov 14, 2024 @ 7:49am
yea add a chat so it can ruin the 1k playerbase even faster because people want to surrender when they die once

The part where people don't know what they are doing & will start a flame war with people who let them now (not flaming, truth hurts) is where SMITE (or any MOBA for that matter) will get ruined.

The most important thing this game needs is incentive to play the game as it's supposed to be played.

People "just playing for fun" & their understanding of fun is picking whatever they want, no teamplay in the picking phase + solo killthirsting ingame, etc. is what ruins the game. These people even play ranked games - they have absolutely no care about the game in reality, they just want quick action.

& this is why the chat is oftentimes full of flame. The types that ruin games (you can already see in a lobby that you are going to waste your life playing the game, but can't bounce either) should be forced to take meta lessons & forced into roles they have been assigned to, maybe even force on autobuy.

As far as the chat part directly - the moderation for flame should get a lot better, meaning a lot of more manhours = this costs. Situations should be looked into thoroughly & the real culprit should be punished accordingly. Otherwise we will end up with the same "it's a good game, but the playerbase is trash & unguided, so basically a hit & miss game".
