Why play this over Deadlock?
Deadlock is a huge innovation when you compare it to any other 3rd person MOBA. Putting a fresh set of paint on Smite and charging people for it is kinda sad. Yes, I know it will be free... but anything you bought in Smite 1 is now cooked. So, you start with a vanilla game all over again.

I mean... Because deadlock is at present unplayable unless you are a play tester or a play tester's friend that they have invited to play is probably the main reason.

Other than that, Smite is more like 3rd person League of Legends, focusing less on gun play and more on skills and MOBA style strategy, always has been. From my understanding, Deadlock is more like Overwatch, or TF2, or Valorant, or games like that, where the focus is on gun play and shooter style strategy.

It's a new game, with new players and new excitement, I am betting the influx of energy for Smite 2 alone will make it worth being a new release over an update to Smite 1 where people keep everything, because if that were the case then it would not have new players, new excitement, it would be the same players and still fairly stale and declining in players after the update hype ended.

New release brings new eyes some of which stick around, update brings old eyes that already left before and will again.

It really is more like a moba than Overwatch or Valorant. There is definitely gunplay skill, but if you try to play it like a shooter, you will lose.

There are plenty of invites available for the alpha. It is pretty easy to get in.

I played a lot of Smite 1. Was a huge fan. I went to 2 of the Smite finals, and had a blast. I was on the fence about Smite 2... but after playing Deadlock I can't find a reason to care about it. I also really don't like what they are doing by eliminating skins. I can't imagine the backlash if Riot or Valve tried to do that with League or DOTA.

I think they are underestimating the backlash.

It's very easy to get a Deadlock invite, it hit 80k players yesterday. It's more a moba with shooting mechanics.

Hard disagree. Deadlock feels way more like a shooter than a moba. In that your aim and gunplay skill is just as if not more important than your positioning. Sure if everyone had equal aim skill then it very very much is a moba, but they dont, so it isnt.

are there melee characters in deadlock?
do ranged characters have a max range like in smite for their auto hits?
All the footage i have seen its allways ranged characters with guns shooting each other from across the map, looks absolutely nothing like Smite.

Also the mapdesign is extremely ugly... its a boring grey city where every house looks the same.
Are there even creep camps on the map?

Sorry but deadlock looks nothing like smite, its a 3rd person overwatch.

All characters have melee and ranged.
Map design will naturally improve over time, it is early alpha and doesn't even have proper store page yet. But what I can say is that map is far more interesting than Smite's. It is very vertical and doesn't feel flat at all.
Yes there are creeps and "big boss"
Deadlock is as much moba as Smite.

the two games are very different. that's like saying to play League over Dota. why not both? they are all different games with unique identity. not to mention SMITE 2 will likely progress faster since it's mostly reworking characters and adding them in along side the new gods. Valve has a big budget but they are doing a lot of new stuff in the genre so it's a lot of trial and error on their end. Smite has a much easier end game to achieve since it's basically what they are already doing just with overhauled systems and mechanics.

Deadlock - Dotawatch. Smite - League of Legends Third Person. Dat's about it really.

Deadlock is straight up garbage.

The fact that deadlock is 90% a moba shooter with no real melee Combat makes it worse for me
