Code was running like duct tape on a nuclear reactor
But they could have found a way to port everything over better
True.
Hirez could have been a big player when it came to the game industry but they always catch defeat from the jaws of victory, or get their talent poached by other AAA companies
Like bragging that Blizz and other studios are using your developers is not a good look because that means they've moved on because those companies are offering better payout/job security or moving upwards is presenting issues
???
They could not however do:
Niagara effects ( better looking, more advanced and iteracting with enviroment / lights)
Cloth physics realtime
Realtime lighting and bounched lighting + amazing reflections
Nanite and Higher polygon Models
20 years of engine upgrades, fixes and improvements. (Better utilizing todays hardware).
Metasounds - Sounds interact with the enviroment now and dont cut out randomly
Better Animation Cycle
A ton of easier tools and solutions for the devs to make content ALOT faster and easier.
More engine features allowing for more fancy stuff to the players.
Better console support
Smite 1 had Flash for UI and menus - Smite 2 has way better UI system (Not the UI design however)

However i do agree Smite 2 needs work.
Because it's obvious? They already had hybrid items and strenght/inteligence in game before. Active exists currently but not on items. Character can get scaling add to them, obviously, they had scaling on them already. Bushes can be done on Unreal Engine 3, believe it or not, even in first revision on UE.
Would you know what they said about "matchmaking for u3", would you happen to have a source for this info? It does seem a bit odd that matchmaking would be broken or bad due to the engine as it's done on backend servers, entirely out of the game engine, well, never heard of it being done differently.
I'm really just curious about it
