Why are people so mad about SMITE 2 and the transfer model?
I really don't understand this. Every game, especially a live-service game, has its own time span. It's been 11 years for Smite. 11 years. Do you even remember clearly what you did and what the world and everything else looked like 11 years ago? I've been playing Smite on and off since beta, got the God pack, bought a few skins here and there, and I had no expectations that anything would carry over to the new game once the time comes for an upgrade. And still, at least some things will carry over, and you'll get something back, even if it's a "lame 50% off coupon".

I understand some people invested a lot of money, but that's the price you've paid for 11 years of entertainment and bragging rights in matches and it's just a small percentage of players, the game is not and should not be tailored to your whims just because you've decided to spend a lot of money on it. You wouldn't ask a movie theater to refund you a movie ticket when the movie sequel comes out; you wouldn't ask a car manufacturer to give you a refund when a new model comes out; and you wouldn't ask a TV manufacturer to upgrade you for free when the new TV model comes out. The same thing happens with specialized software (if you use any in your daily lives), you use it and then pay for a new license next year, or pay for an upgrade to a new version if you don't want to stay on the old one. I know these comparisons are somewhat disproportionate, but it's just to make a point.

The game's life cycle has come to an end, and it's time for an upgrade. Same thing happens with a lot of games (with some on the bigger scale and with some on the lesser scale), for example with every new Call of Duty/Warzone (though recently one ported the skins, but that practice won't last forever and the sequels/upgrades come out every year and not after 11 years like Smite. And it's a hot mess with all those weapons and things they had to account for, but that's for another discussion.

And they also said they will continue to support Smite 1 with regular upgrades in the foreseeable future, so nobody is forcing you to switch if you don't want to. Also, one more thing: for the people that complain that the God pack does not carry over, for crying out loud, you've been using it for 11 years, and it cost you around $10, where else did you get that value for money?

All-in-all, I look forward to seeing what will come out of this and how SMITE 2 will look, and thanks to SMITE 1 for a lot of entertainment over the years :)

I don't give a dam that they didn't transported skins... But you could have at least reward us for supporting your game... Afther all we are the reason you could even uppgrade to engine 5... Tell me do you think they would have manage without us that paid for gems to uppgrade? 50% off skins is bull crap for all we paid really... i expected more to keep us... now they lose alot. 50% off is a slap in the face for thouse who bought gems... That being said the ''new'' game as you call it was never made for old players it was made for new players... Thats why im mad about it... Give us a reason to stay cuz you really not doing a grate jobb doing so... We might not own anything in game... But the money was ours we payd for a trade...Thats why they save smite one so they can say we still have what you bought but it locked to smite one... People say to me you don't own anything in game... well it is true... but the money was never in game... Consumer protection Law usa it would be a unfair trade... So what they write in game is thay you don't own anything in game it is true... But that dosen't meen you don't own the money you bought somthing with if they make an unfair trade... like deleting what you bought... thats why they save smite one... to me it's another slap in the face becouse we know smite one will be dead regions since they won't do any uppgrades or events or anything on it what they wrote when they confirmed smite 2... So why would people stay give me a resson why they would stay... Thats why i'm mad... It is not hard to price us for what we did for you without skins even... comon i wasen't born yesturday...

bohoo we get 50% off smite 2 skins as a bonus, just giving a full refund on smite 1 gems as legacy gems is huge, not only do you get smite 1 skins you already have when they come over you also get them looking better than smite 1 and free.

not only do you get the full refund but for being loyal to smite you get 50% off smite 2 skins as a bonus, they didnt have to give 50% off smite 2 stuff they couldve just said nope your gems only work on loyalty skins. but since they mentioned the gems can be 50% coupons people are sticking so hard to that. guess what its been cleared up what they meant, its a bonus. its overly generous. but people still make a mountain out of a molehill,

doesnt matter how much you complain all the gods and skins arnt gonna be in smite 2 on release they aint just gonna port things and have them look like garbage, so you either wait for the skins you want to play smite 2 or don't play,

since the reward people are asking for is right there and very generous. am suprised they are even doubling it for those who buy the smite 2 god pack

asså belöningen du får av att köpa skins är skins.
du är inte berättigad mer än så.

I won't spend my money on hi Rez games anymore more.

I feel sorry because I spent my money on their paladins,

I wish it was for CSGO or overwatch.

Because this is literally just a mild upgrade to graphics, nothing else. Same heroes, same abilities, same everything. This is not a sequel, it's a pure graphics upgrade that should have been done many years ago as a free patch which technically it is because SMITE 2 will remain free, so the only reason they market it as a different game is to milk you for skins again. Imagine LoL releases LoL 2... this is basically the same.

There are people that spent thousands of dollars on skins. And now they are told that they have to spend all of this again on the same game. I'm not one of them, I only ever bought the gods pack. But it doesn't take a lot of IQ to see that this is nothing but an attempt to milk the few dedicated players again for the same stuff.

Actually, it's not that simple. Porting from a game engine that is fifteen years old is not a trivial feat. I'm not sure the last time you did any game development, but code that old, especially within game engines (of which, you're using their engines APIs) is not a simple feat.

Take Unity for example. Transitioning from even minor revisions within the same year can cause major API changes that makes old code barely usable.

TLDR: It's not as easy to go from one generation of a game engine to another as you think it is. A jump from Unreal Engine 3, released in 2009, to Unreal Engine 5, released in 2022, isn't as simple as you'd like to think it is.

they arnt even hitting the "few" dedicated players, most of the top players and people who spent the most on smite dont care at all. its a very few vocal minority that are the loudest that are all here complaining. when the people who actually spent the most are saying they dont care the small few have nothing. little tip its most the pros at the top in the pro scene that have literally bought everything

Cuz they spend money on online game which anyway will be closed and their money vanishes. It's just a matter of time, but they need to cry for something.

No one asking people to spend their money on skins. It's their' only decision, stop blaming others for inability to manage own money and think.

I thought if you bought the god pack in smite 2 legacy gems are 1 to 1 value with paid and earned gems? 30 dollars for all the gods and all the cash you spent in the first one? Someone feel free to correct me if I'm incorrect.

Support the games you like and don't support the games you're no interested.. In the digital age you don't own anything you lease the agreement to use it. I don't agree with this but it's the way it is.

I personally don't think they should give a refund at all. I think you all are lucky you're getting anything.

It's an entirely different game, even if it shares the same plot, the models, animations, lightning, assets, etc. are all new. You paid for a license to a skin, they aren't shutting smite 1 down so you're not losing your licenses. Go play smite 1.

Their are about 1600 skins in smite 1. To say that the team of 400 members (probably 100 or less actual core members) should spend their time modeling, rigging, programming and testing each skin is insanely entitled and such a child's poi t of view.

TLDR: stop being entitled children, you don't deserve anything. You spent money on a fleeting item, one that you don't even own. Next time don't spend money.

I have my own gripes about this alpha but what you're saying about it being against USA consumer protection laws is just completely not true. This is how all micro-transactions in any game work. You don't own them, as you said, and you agree to the terms in the EULA. In fact, you don't own the game either; you own a perpetual (sometimes non-transferable) license to play the game and you agree to certain terms in the EULA pertaining to the license. This is why, when an online game goes down that you've paid money for and/or micro-transactions, you are not owed anything. It sucks but that's just how it works.

I totally agree that HiRez has made a serious blunder with the lack of consideration for the players that have done what you said and helped them, financially, by buying their already overpriced cosmetics. Not only can you not buy skins with ONLY the currency they provided for a "carry over" of some of your previous investment but they also raised the average price of the skins. It would have been a seen a little more favorably, perhaps, if they added certain milestones that would have earned some exclusive skins (i.e. if you spent $50 on SMITE 1 skins then you get an exclusive SMITE 2 skin, so on and so forth). As it stands, their greed is showing through to a point where there is many, many people frustrated and boycotting the game because of it. Probably also why they recently disabled some of the in game purchases.

Other than that issue, there are some glaring examples of what I can only describe as incompetent decisions. Such as implementing a ranked queue that doesn't consider MMMR (SR) at all. Every single one of my ranked games (and all of my buddies who have been playing) have had one team with a double (and in many cases far more than double) average rating than the enemy team (usually in the favor of the enemy team in all of our cases). People with 5-6k rating playing against people in their very first ranked game is simply unacceptable. Everyone I have spoken with agrees they would rather have a longer queue than this lopsided "matchmaking". And to boot, they decided to not implement an in game text chat. Many people say VGS is just fine and you don't need text chat but I totally disagree, especially with so many newer players that come into games and need way more direction than VGS can accommodate; I have had several ranked games where people are 2 (and even 3) manning solo lane. No amount of VGS is enough to try to explain what they need to be doing. Others will say, "there is a voice chat, get over it"; totally ignoring the fact (or not realizing) that voice chat is bugged in group queues and just doesn't work half the time. It will just show you're microphone queue but nobody will be able to hear you at all. Have tested this with several people in multiple games and in more than half of the games the chat is bugged in the described way for all of us. And we won't even talk about how some gods (like Bacchus as a prime example) are just way over tuned to the point where I can't even fathom how it's not something they would take the time to simply adjust some scaling.

I am fine with bugs, lag, long queues and a plethora of other issues that come along with the usual alpha, however... the DECISIONS they are making are just not good right now. There is no reason for it. Hopefully they figure it out before they lose too many people and struggle to get the feedback they need to continue moving forward at a decent pace.
